A bodhisattva abiding in the fourth ground should fully adopt and abide by these ten dharmas, and should not abandon them. What are the ten? They are as stated in the sutra, from "abiding in a solitary place" to "having no dependence on anything." The second part has two points: the individual characteristics of what is to be tamed, and how it transforms into complete taming. The first point is, abiding in the forest: the Hinayana considers it a remote place with a mind of renunciation, and regards it as an adornment. The sutra also says that the meaning of abiding in a solitary place is supreme remoteness. From a general perspective, abiding in a solitary place refers to a place separated from a village by a yojana. As stated in the Abhidharmakosha: "Form, name, time, edge, dust, letter, etc., A moment, an atom, dust, and that, Molecule and that similarly, Iron, water, rabbit, sheep, ox, and sun, Sunlight, dust, louse, and that, Born from that and that similarly, A finger joint is multiplied by seven, Twenty-four fingers are an elbow, Four elbows are a bow's length, Five hundred of those are a yojana, That is called a solitary place, Eight of those are a krosha." Thus, a bodhisattva should rely on both supreme and ordinary remoteness, so it is not contradictory to the sutra. Having few desires: not having the desire to obtain what has not been obtained before, thinking, "How wonderful it would be if I could obtain it!" That is, not desiring to obtain it. Here, it means not having desire for enlightenment for one's own sake or for a specific purpose. Contentment: not seeking to obtain even more than what has been obtained, thinking, "How wonderful it would be if I could obtain something even better than this!" That is, not seeking. Here, it means that even if one obtains a special object to be obtained, such as omniscience, one will not be arrogant because of it. This is in accordance with what is said in the Abhidharmakosha: "Also greedy for what is obtained, not content, Having great greed for what is not obtained, Their opposites are the antidotes." And this is also the explanation made by the Sun-like Teacher. Vasubandhu considers that both are equally greedy for what has not been obtained, so they cannot be distinguished by this definition, but rather uses "unhappy with obtaining a small amount of inferior things" and "not satisfied even with obtaining a large amount of excellent things" as the criteria for distinction. However, the sutra says that one does not generate desire even for enlightenment, and one does not become arrogant even upon obtaining omniscience, so the explanations of the noble ones and the teachers are also in accordance with the sutra. Relying on pure discipline also has uncommon excellence, and common...

Of the two cases pertaining to ordinary people, the first is: not abandoning the tolerance of definite understanding that is not afraid of the meaning of profundity free from elaboration. The second is: to perfectly uphold the twelve qualities of training, such as begging for alms, and to abide by its commitment. What are these twelve? They should be understood through two aspects: their individual distinctions and their common explanations. The first is three concerning alms, Dharma robes, and dwellings, three and six: As an antidote to attachment to good food, being content with whatever is obtained by eating as much as one needs from familiar homes, and the alms-seeker who begs from house to house, taking whatever is obtained, thinking, 'How much food will I get from this house that I want?' and not walking with head held high, but begging in sequence. If these two are separated, there are thirteen qualities of training, but if not separated, there are twelve. As an antidote to attachment to much food, the one who sits on one mat and eats, not getting up from it, the one-seater, and the one who sits down for food and does not eat until all the food that sustains him is taken, thinking, 'I will live on this,' and then takes it all at once and eats it, the one who does not take later, the two. As an antidote to attachment to many clothes, the one who lives on three pieces of clothing, a woolen upper garment and a lower skirt, and does not carry more than these three Dharma robes, and the one who carries three Dharma robes and all the remaining clothes made of wool, the felt-wearer, such as wearing wool and coarse wool in the moonlight, called the felt-wearer, and the one who throws away the unclean clothes soiled by excrement and urine, etc., thrown away in the garbage heap, and picks up the threads from the garbage, washes and sews them, changes the color, and carries them, the garbage-heap-wearer. These two are to abandon attachment to soft and fine Dharma robes. To abandon attachment to bustle, the monastery dweller who lives in a monastery a yojana away from the village, and the tree-dweller who dwells under a tree, and the one without a roof who dwells without a covering, and the charnel ground dweller who dwells in a place where the living and the dead are abandoned. These three are to abandon attachment to dwellings. As an antidote to attachment to the comfort of lying down and sleeping, a bed or
