The first of the ten numbers is called Extremely Joyful. Why is it called that? Because one draws near to enlightenment, and upon seeing the accomplishment of the benefit of sentient beings, great joy arises, therefore it is called Extremely Joyful. As it is said. By what? By the complete purification of the ten qualities mentioned above. How does one become the complete purification of the first ground? By realizing that the ten distinctions of the cause of complete purification do not apprehend anything as the nature of truth, only by the complete purification of the characteristics distinguished by such distinctions is that ground attained, and not by the complete purification separated from the realization of emptiness, which is non-apprehension. Why are these ten called complete purification? Because they are to be fully generated or purified in all aspects. Just as when those with conceptualization accomplish the ultimate state of learning, it is called purification. Or, the first ground should not be something to be obtained by the ten dharmas, because are these ten the qualities of attaining that ground? Although that ground is not something to be obtained that was not previously obtained, it is because it is already obtained and fully generated. Thus it is said. Here, although a brief instruction was given first, the teacher first explained the ten dharmas, and then connected the first two lines with the last two lines, explaining how these ten become complete purification, so here it should be in accordance with that, and both should be understood. The second has two parts. The first is: one verse called morality. The great bodhisattva, abiding on the second ground, should repeatedly remember these eight dharmas and be diligent in them. What are the eight? Namely, from "morality is completely pure" to "seeking the perfections with diligence." The second has two parts: the individual nature of what is to be purified, and how it becomes complete purification. The first is: morality is what causes all qualities to arise in one's own mind-stream, accumulating virtuous dharmas, and maturing sentient beings to be tamed, accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings, and turning away from all misdeeds, the morality of vows is completely pure, abandoning the thought of hearers and solitary realizers, and becoming evil morality, and not thinking of other dharmas that are obstacles to omniscience.

O! Gratitude is: even if others give a small help, not to despise it, nor to belittle it, therefore remembering. Patience is: others harm with their body, and scold with words, etc., all endure, and do not generate harmful thoughts towards sentient beings, and for the unarisen dharmas, generate intention in the mind. Joy is: for virtuous dharmas, placing sentient beings in the three vehicles, practicing without regret, and with joy. Loving-kindness is: for the sake of each sentient being, even if experiencing suffering in hell for countless eons, not to be weary, in this way loving all beings. Respect is: Khenpos, etc., towards Acharyas and all other beings, prostrating in a way that destroys arrogance. Listening respectfully to the Lama is: regarding the virtuous friend as a teacher, practicing the dharma he teaches. Diligence in giving, etc., is: for the benefit of sentient beings, having no other work, joyfully practicing the six perfections such as giving, etc., these are called the eight. The second is: able to be obtained. Where? In the second ground, the stainless ground. Why is it said that way? Because it is free from the defilement of diligent behavior of distraction, therefore it is called the stainless ground. The defilement of diligence refers to thinking of other vehicles in the mind. In what way? Like the previous first ground said, for such purification of discipline, etc., without attachment, realizing, with the difference of purification and possessing eight aspects. Because it is to be generated in all aspects, so add here as well, and the same for the following. The third has two, the first is: the six sentences of hearing, etc. The great Bodhisattva abides in the third ground, and must abide in the five dharmas. What are the five dharmas? Just like this, hearing more is not satisfied, and also not attached to the letters, from knowing shame and having a sense of shame, abiding in this also does not become arrogant, etc. Here, in the sutra, for the first one, not having arrogance is not expressed in words, but it also needs to be added, because the nature of non-arrogance is the five kinds. The second has two: the nature of what is to be purified, the way to become completely purified. The first is: hearing without satisfaction is: thinking of accepting all the dharmas spoken by the Buddhas in the ten directions, therefore
