That which has outflows and that which has no outflows are called three, which makes six. The third is nine. The fourth is twelve. The fifth is fifteen, and it should be combined in the same way. It is said, and it is also in whatever is expanded. Then, for the remaining ones, it is also because there is no difference between the expansion of three and the way of expansion. If one can expand three, will it become possible to expand everything? In Don Sal it says: The first is three minds, which means that for that person, there is only that much ability, and the same should be said for the ones below. Like this, although one can expand each individual unit by expanding three, etc., there is no fault because one cannot expand others. The cause of being born in the Pure Abodes is that which has outflows, because that which has no outflows cuts off existence. Regarding the meaning of having outflows and not having outflows, all the earlier and later commentators think that between the two that have the aspect of samadhi without outflows and truth, the subsequent attainment that has the aspect of having outflows, quiescence and coarseness is expanded, which does not seem to be the meaning of the Abhidharma, because in the actual basis of meditation, the aspect of quiescence and coarseness is not explained from anywhere, and it cannot be obtained by reason, because seeing the upper and lower grounds as quiescence and coarseness is the path of overcoming the lower ground, and the actual basis of having outflows is the path of abandonment, because it is contradictory. Because one has already overcome the lower ground by proximity, just as bricks cannot arise from a wall, because it has outflows, it cannot overcome its own ground and the upper ground. Therefore, the having outflows here is merely the purity of worldly virtue. The second is going to the peak of existence, experiencing the taste of all the absorptions, being born up to the great fruit, abandoning the Pure Abodes, gradually being born into the formless realm, and then passing beyond to the peak of existence. Although this does not belong to the nine that approach form, it is approaching form, because its meaning is not passing beyond relying on the basis of form, but doing it from desire to be born there. If it is not certain that the two, Aghmin and going to the peak of existence, will go to those two, then what are the characteristics of these four upper migrations? For the three leaps, in order, taking two, three, and four from the form realm of existence, and then the Pure Abodes. Going to the peak of existence, although it is not certain to be the peak of existence, one must pass beyond relying on the formless realm, I think. The second is, all the fetters of form.

By the power of that, one does not transfer from here to a form body, but takes birth in the formless realm. Here, since there is no intermediate state for birth, one passes away immediately after birth, and there are four types: with action, without action, and upward transference. As the Treasury of Knowledge states: 'The others, the formless goers, are four.' Thus it is. If asked whether these distinctions also apply to those who attain the end of their lives in the desire realm as non-returners, the answer is no. As the Treasury of Knowledge states: 'A noble one who has completely exhausted their life in the desire realm does not go to another realm.' Therefore, the meaning of a non-returner who has exhausted their life in the desire realm is that they have attained one of the first two fruits in their first life, and in their second life, they become a non-returner, as explained by the King's Son. This refers to passing away in that life, and exhausting one's life in the form realm, such as going to the peak of existence, also going to another realm, the formless realm, as stated in the auto-commentary. The exception to these distinctions being inapplicable is stated in the Treasury of Knowledge Commentary: 'Because it is said to be only that.' For a non-returner who has previously practiced detachment, before the path of seeing, anything less than that, these distinctions are not applicable to detachment, but it is thought that they are applicable to those other than that. If one dies in that realm and place without abandoning the afflictions of that realm and place, they will be born in that realm and place, and one who transcends without abandoning the afflictions of the two upper realms cannot become a non-returner, and it is not certain that they will pass away relying on the desire realm. These distinctions are said to be applicable to gradual practitioners, as is well known. Thirdly, if asked which realm, the desire realm or the upper realms, the five types of those who approach form and the four types of those who approach the formless rely on, the Treasury of Knowledge states: 'There are nine types of those who approach form. The various distinctions of these are explained through the differences of karma, faculties, and afflictions.' Thus it is. This distinguishes the three who pass away in the intermediate state, the three who pass away after being born, and the three who leap, through the doors of karma, faculties, and afflictions. In order, those with karma that only manifests, those who experience the result after being born, and those who experience the result in other instances are the first distinction. The sharpness, mediumness, and dullness of the faculties are the second. The small, medium, and large to be abandoned are the third. Within the first two of the three sets, there is no difference in karma, but there is a difference in faculties and afflictions. In the last three sets, there is also a difference in karma, because there are many or few births. These are explained in the auto-commentary, so the five types of those who approach form...
