It is said that taking two or three rebirths in the same kind of beings is the difference of rebirth. As it is said in the Treasury of Abhidharma, "Liberated from the three and four, in two or three lives, from clan to clan." Fifth, the unabandoned one, also in the self-commentary, says, "Why is it not because of abandoning the five aspects? Because if it is abandoned, the sixth will inevitably be abandoned. Because it does not transcend the realm." The meaning is that if the fifth is abandoned, there is no need to transcend the realm, so the sixth will be abandoned. If that is the case, it will become a once-returner, so it is thought that in the desire realm beings, one rebirth does not take twice, so it cannot become a lineage birth. Therefore, except for taking three rebirths, the lineage birth will perish its characteristics after one birth. Does this mean that all that should be abandoned has been abandoned, and it is abandoned after the sixteenth or before the path of seeing? The self-commentary says, "Previously abandoning the three and the fourth, abandoning the seventh and eighth, obtaining the fruit, as long as the path of special fruit has not been manifested, it will be reborn from one lineage to another, or it is not a single interval." What is said implies that before the path of seeing, it also speaks of the lineage birth of abandoning the desire realm afflictions three and four, so both should be accepted. This sutra also shows that a single interval also has prior detachment from desire. Thus, there are two kinds of lineage births, the gods and humans. The second has two aspects: the stream-enterer, that is, the one who dwells in the fruit of the stream-enterer, when striving to obtain the fruit of the once-returner, has not abandoned any of the five afflictions to be abandoned by cultivation, or between striving to abandon the sixth affliction, is the one who enters the once-returner. As it is said in the Treasury of Abhidharma, "The five have been subdued, is the one who enters the second fruit." The second is: when the stream-enterer abandons the sixth of the desire realm afflictions, he is the once-returner. As it is said, "The sixth aspect has been exhausted, he is the once-returner." That is to say, when abiding on the path of liberation of abandoning the sixth affliction, between the fruit position and the ninth affliction, when striving to abandon, he is the special one. The difference of the latter, one life one interval, is abandoning the seventh and eighth afflictions, obtaining the uncontaminated root of their antidote, leaving one remaining rebirth. As it is said in the Treasury of Abhidharma, "The faults of seven and eight have been exhausted, is one life one interval, and is also the one who enters the third fruit." This has not abandoned the seventh affliction

Although one birth is in the same place, the obstacles are not the same. In the Compendium, taking one birth means taking birth as a god, and in its commentary, the meaning of the same obstacle is explained as being obstructed by one birth. In this case, gradualness does not cover everything, because it has already been said that, generally speaking, a once-returner may take birth once each in the desire realm of gods and humans, and even so, it will not become a non-once-returner, because it will not take birth in the same kind of birth. The third has two: entering and abiding. The first is: the once-returner strives to abandon the afflictions from the seventh to the ninth level. The second is: when the enterer abandons the ninth level of abandonment through meditation, he is a non-returner. As it says in the Treasury: "When the nine are exhausted, there is no return." Among them, there are also two who abide in only the fruit and those who have special characteristics. Furthermore, non-returners have two types: those who go to the upper realms and those who pass away in the same support of the desire realm. The first has three: approaching the form realm and the formless realm, and the contemplation of their support. The first has three: intermediate state, passing away after birth, and upward transference. The first is: a non-returner who is born in any of the sixteen intermediate states of the form realm, except for the Great Brahma, and passes away in that support. In this regard, there are three types: the intermediate state has just been formed, after it has been formed, the appearance of seeking a birth has not yet occurred, and when one intends to go to a birth, one passes away without remainder. The second is: a non-returner who connects to a birth in the sixteen birth places of the form realm and passes away with remainder in that support. In this regard, there are three types: from the moment of birth, with fabrication, and without it, passing away. The differences between them are that, in order, the path arises naturally and with effort, with effort the path does not arise naturally, and not possessing both. This is the view of the Vaibhashikas. In the Sutra on the Seven Destinations of Noble Beings, the previously mentioned order of non-action and action must be done in this way. The difference between these two is that there is no need to strive, the path arises naturally and does not arise. The first is that the path arises very naturally and the subtle differences are very small, so there is a difference from the second, this is the view of the teacher. The Compendium is also like that. All three of these are passing away after birth, as it says in the self-commentary: "After being born, completely liberated from suffering."
