Pages 301 to 400 Pages 301 to 400 Because it is the antidote to the subtle of the subtle. In the case of the two intermediate fruits, if it is a case of sudden transcendence, then these two fruits are the actual means of attainment, the transcendental path, because it is permissible to follow the path. If it is gradual, then it is possible to attain both the worldly and the transcendental paths. After attaining the sixteenth, if the sixth and ninth are abandoned by the uncontaminated path, then it is the transcendental path that actually attains them. If these two are abandoned by the aspect of peace and roughness, then the worldly path actually attains these two fruits, because the abandonment of meditation in the desire realm can be abandoned by both paths. It is also attained by the worldly path. The self-commentary says: The fruit of once-return is gradually attained, and if it is attained by the worldly path, then it is attained by the five, such as faith, and equanimity, and the mind faculty, and the seven faculties. However, if it is attained by the transcendental path, then it is attained by the eight faculties, the eighth being the faculty of omniscience. Therefore, if it is gradual, it is necessary to abandon what is to be abandoned by the uncontaminated path, which is not carefully examined. Second, the two fruits of stream-enterer and sudden transcendence are pervasive in that they are attained simultaneously with the attainment of the sixteenth. That is, before the path of seeing, one must abandon either the sixth or the ninth of the meditation to be abandoned in the desire realm, and simultaneously with the attainment of the sixteenth, one attains once-return and non-return. If the sixth is not abandoned, even if the five or less are abandoned, only the fruit of stream-enterer is attained for the sixteenth. Therefore, the once-return and non-return of this sudden transcendent are the first fruits respectively, because the stream-enterer and once-return are not abandoned in advance as in the order. The self-commentary says: If it is for the sake of attaining the first fruit, then most of them are free from desire and also free from desire. The two intermediate fruits of the gradual one are pervasive in that they are manifested after the attainment of the sixteenth, that is, they are attained simultaneously with the gradual and abandonment of the sixth and ninth of the meditation to be abandoned in the desire realm. Thus, for the gradual one, from one to five, before the path of seeing

Even if abandoned, the sixth and ninth chapters must be abandoned after the sixteenth chapter. The sudden transcendence is that the two are abandoned before the path of seeing. Third, if it is the path to obtain the fruit of the stream-enterer and the once-returner, then it must rely on the near-concentration of the first meditation, because the two are stained saints who have not left the desire realm. Similarly, the gradual path to obtain the fruit of non-return should also be known. The path to obtain the fruit of non-return by sudden transcendence may depend on any of the six meditation grounds. Because for the one who obtains the fruit of non-return by sudden transcendence, before the path of seeing, if he obtains the near-concentration of the peak of existence, and abandons the attachment from the bottom to the realm of nothingness, then it is possible to rely on any of the six grounds. However, it is impossible to rely on the formless realm, because in this case, the path to obtain the fruit of non-return and the path of seeing are on the same ground. The fruit of Arhat may appear depending on any of the nine uncontaminated grounds. The second has three types: sudden transcendence, gradual, and sudden realization. The first has two types: entering the stream and dwelling in the fruit. The first has two types, among which the entry into the stream of the once-returner is: before the path of seeing, using the worldly path to abandon the sixth chapter of the abandonment of cultivation in the desire realm, abandoning or not abandoning the seventh and eighth chapters is acceptable, but not abandoning the ninth chapter, and dwelling in any state from the forbearance of the law of suffering to the forbearance of the subsequent wisdom of the path, this is the difference of realization, that is, possessing these two abandonments and realizations. The entry into the stream of the non-returner is: before the path of seeing, abandoning the ninth chapter of the abandonment of cultivation in the desire realm, and having a similar difference of abandonment and realization to the previous one, whether or not the attachment between the first meditation and the realm of nothingness is abandoned, as stated in the Treasury: "Second, the ninth chapter and below are exhausted, in the desire realm or above, being free from attachment is the third entry." Some people also add the reasoning of the first entry into the stream in the Compendium from the path of application to this, so as to determine the boundary of the first from the path of application. The second is: on the basis of the abandonment of the respective entries into the stream before, when the sixteenth chapter is obtained later, it becomes the fruit position of the once-returner and the non-returner, and the previous entry into the stream is the dull-rooted faith and the sharp-rooted dharma.
