Chapter Four: Connecting with questions, answering with sutras, the meaning established by the questions and answers, and the reason for not quoting other sutras. First, how is it known that perfect and complete enlightenment is the object to be attained, possessing the nature of what one desires to achieve? How is it known that generating the mind for the benefit of others is the object to be specifically pursued? Moreover, it is not only explaining the characteristics, but the sutras also establish it. The second part has two sections. First, that enlightenment is the object to be attained, and that the benefit of others is the object to be specifically pursued, are expressed in the Mother Sutras through both concise and extensive methods. Generating the mind with the intention of attaining perfect enlightenment for the sake of others is said to be in accordance with the Mother Sutras, that is, in harmony with them, and not arbitrarily. The second part has two sections: enlightenment, and the way the sutras show the focus on the benefit of others. First, the characteristic of generating the mind should be understood as not contradicting the meaning of the Mother Sutras, that is, as being in harmony with them. How is it shown? It has been shown. Where is it shown? In the desire for perfect and complete enlightenment. Through what method? Through the method of concise and extensive explanation. From where is it shown? From all three forms of the Mother of the Buddhas: extensive, intermediate, and concise Prajnaparamita Sutras. Also, it is an internal mutual inclusion. Some say that these sutras are not in the Eight Thousand Verse Sutra, so the concise one refers to the Twenty-five Thousand Verse Sutra, but according to the explanation of the "Understanding White Commentary," it refers to the Eight Thousand Verse Sutra, because this teacher believes that all three Mother Sutras have extensive and concise words, but there is no difference in meaning, so he considers this Ornament to be the Ornament of all three Mother Sutras. Therefore, this treatise and the Three Wisdoms are the occasion for understanding the knowledge that summarizes the realizations of the Four Sons, and in the necessary connections, it is also said that all three Mother Sutras are included, which is the meaning of that. Which sutra words? "Shariputra, if one desires to fully awaken to all dharmas in all aspects, one should practice or strive in the Prajnaparamita," with the meaning of knowing that enlightenment is the object to be attained, that is, with words that have the meaning to be expressed, it briefly shows the desire for enlightenment. Moreover, in this sentence, the Mahayana or Prajnaparamita is the teaching, all aspects are the two aspects of the two truths, perfect enlightenment and above is the result, the Mother is the cause, and striving is the application.

This is about subduing the harm to the perfect Dharma. After such instruction, the answer to the question of how to strive diligently is that, in this body, one does not abide in the aspect of great Bodhi, but abides in Prajñāpāramitā. Because one does not cling to giving, generosity, and receiving, one practices giving with the aspect of non-giving; because there is no action of falling into sin or not falling into sin, one observes morality; because there is no conflict, one practices patience; because the diligence of body and mind does not decline, one practices diligence; because there is no taste, one practices meditation; because one does not cling to wisdom and the distraction of wisdom, one should perfect Prajñāpāramitā. Thus, between giving and so on up to wisdom, all objects of giving, the giver, and the receiver, etc., as well as the one who observes morality, the precepts, and the three of breaking precepts, and so on for other phenomena as well, when a person practices the Pāramitās, one does not cling to the emptiness of the three circles regarding the three things to be abandoned, and one cultivates those Pāramitās, which is the meaning of perfecting them. With words that have the meaning of knowing Bodhi as the desired object, the intention of desiring Bodhi is explained extensively. Thus, the first chapter of the Sutra says that one who desires Bodhi should strive diligently, which is a brief explanation of desire. The second chapter of the Sutra says that one who desires it should learn the six perfections, thus opening up the combination extensively and implying it with intention. In "Subduing Harm," it is quoted that observing morality does not give rise to transgression, especially for not giving rise to transgression. The meaning is that when a Bodhisattva, whether a householder or a renunciate, takes vows, transgression does not arise. Even if it arises, one confesses it without delay. The meaning of no taste is that if one acts for one's own benefit, there is taste, but if one acts for the benefit of others, there is no taste. Therefore, one enters into purity and non-leakage, but not into afflictions, as it is explained. The second is the teaching. Where is the place where one desires to benefit others? Through which door and from where is it taught, as before. With what words? In each of the ten directions, as many sentient beings as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, may all those beings, according to their capacity, be completely led into the realm of Nirvana without remainder, or be liberated.
