If it is said that the arising of a mind that appears as a special object focusing on enlightenment is not the generation of bodhicitta, then why is it? Because it is the generation of bodhicitta. Secondly, there are two: the name of the cause is attributed to the effect, and the name of the friend is attributed to the one with a friend. The first is: desire is a mental factor, therefore it is true that it is not established as bodhicitta, but it is desire. Then, what is meant by "desiring perfect and complete enlightenment"? Although desire is not bodhicitta, in the context of the definition, it relies only on the fact that it is closely attributed to bodhicitta by its name, therefore there is no fault of becoming a mental factor as bodhicitta. For attribution that is not like a real thing, three dharmas must be complete. What are the three dharmas? Here, the reasons for the three attributions are: similarity is taken as the reason, like saying a foolish person is an ox; there are three types of connection as the reason: part and whole, object to be expressed and expressing, and cause and effect are connected. Among them, the first is like saying that one side of a cloth is burned, so the cloth is burned; the second is like saying that the sutra that shows the object to be expressed of the Prajnaparamita is the Prajnaparamita; the third is also divided into two, the name of the cause is attributed to the effect, and the name of the effect is attributed to the cause. The first is like saying that leaves are vegetables; the second is like saying that the present happiness and suffering are past karma, among these, this is the latter. That is, focusing on the helpless beings drowning in the ocean of suffering, the thought of wanting to liberate them, having the characteristic of virtuous dharma, the desire to seek the meaning of benefiting others, if there is a desire to accomplish the meaning, then relying on it as the cause, for their sake, the fruit of wanting to attain Buddhahood, the generation of bodhicitta arises, therefore the cause desire is attributed to the effect bodhicitta and shown. The necessity of attribution is: if desire exists as the cause, then bodhicitta will arise, like this, all the virtuous dharmas of the Bodhisattva who desires and accomplishes the meaning of benefiting others and enlightenment will increase, it is attributed for the sake of knowing this, it is for the sake of knowing that desire is the initial cause. The harm to the real thing is: bodhicitta is not a real desire, because it is mind, thus combined. That is true, but it can also be shown. The second is: one way of answering.

So, the generation of bodhicitta that is used together with that aspiration is named and shown by the sound of that aspiration. What is that aspiration like? Aspiration is to pursue a goal, which is the desire for perfect and complete enlightenment. The reason for the naming is that at the stage of generating bodhicitta, the desire to pursue benefit is the main thing. Because it causes the unarisen bodhicitta to arise and the arisen to increase. This is like in the world, when a king travels with his entourage, because the king is the main one, it is said that the king has passed away, without mentioning the entourage. This reason is the common view of both commentaries. The necessity of the naming is: aspiration and bodhicitta are used together, so that bodhisattvas will know that the mind with aspiration has arisen. Thus, among the two imputed dharmas, the desire that is the cause is focused on the benefit of others, merely wishing others to be free from suffering, and not focused on bodhi. Because this is the cause and effect of bodhicitta, it must arise before bodhicitta. If it is said that these two are simultaneous cause and effect, so they are simultaneous, that is not reasonable. If that is the case, it will be no different from the following answer. If it is said that the stated intention is to focus on bodhi for the sake of others, this itself is the focus of the dispute, so the intention of the cause is to focus on bodhi, then the opponent's thought is that if it is said to be intention, then it is a mental factor, so it is thought to be contradictory to bodhicitta. It is not a dispute that if the object of intention is for the sake of others and bodhi, then it is a mental factor, and if the object of intention is others, then it is not a mental factor. The second imputed dharma is the aspiration that is the helper, which is to focus on perfect bodhi for the sake of others. Thus, both of these disputed answers seem to think that mind and mental factors are different entities, and many great chariot masters of India, such as the brothers Asanga, have also explained it that way. There are many things to be said about this view, but I have not written them for fear of too many words. In the Clear Words, it says: Bodhicitta is simultaneously possessed of both intention and compassion, why is it said to be simultaneously possessed of intention alone? The answer to this question does not seem to be in accordance with the original intention. Two
