It is said to be Buddha, that is, knowing the exhaustion and non-arising of the Buddha, and together with the retinue, it is the five aggregates of no outflows. The physical body as the support is no different in the two periods of Bodhisattva and later Buddhahood, so it is not the Buddha, so it is not a refuge. Taking refuge in the Sangha is for the learners who are the Dharma of the Sangha and the non-learners other than the Buddha. That is, by virtue of attaining something, the eight types of individuals, even with the gods, will not turn away from the path, so they are called the Sangha. That is, the five aggregates of no outflows in the continuum of the eight types of individuals. This is also because the body as the support is not the Sangha, so it is not taken refuge in. Taking refuge in the Dharma is for the individual liberation of cessation and Nirvana. That is the two Nirvanas of the noble ones. In this way, according to the view of the Vibhajyavādins, the support body of both the Buddha and the Sangha is the truth of suffering, so it is not the Buddha and the Sangha. However, the outflow-free aggregates of the supporting Buddha are the Buddha, the outflow-free aggregates of the Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas other than the Buddha are the Sangha, and the Nirvana in the continuum of both the Buddha and the Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas is considered the Dharma Jewel. To this, some say that if the physical body is not the Buddha, then drawing blood with evil intent will not constitute an action with immediate retribution. To this, the Vibhajyavādins say that harming the support will also harm the supported. For example, harming the eye will also harm the eye consciousness. To this, the teacher says in the treatise that it is not said that only the non-learners are the Buddha, but rather the learners who are the Dharma of the Buddha, so it is said that the Buddha and the cause of making it the Buddha are the Buddha, and it is not forbidden that the support is not the Buddha, so arguing that it will not constitute an action with immediate retribution, it is not permissible to blame the treatise. If the intention of the treatise is not like this, then when the Buddha and the Sangha generate worldly minds, they will become not the Buddha and the Sangha, because the learners and non-learners are outflow-free, so those and the two manifestations of the worldly mind cannot exist simultaneously, so at that time there are no learners and non-learners, and the support is not those either. So it is said. These are together with the explanations of the two commentaries.

Oh! Therefore, the master's explanation here that "the basis is the Buddha" also appears to be the view of the Sautrāntika school. Apart from this difference, the Sautrāntikas also agree with this way of establishing the Three Refuges. The second (explaining the objects of refuge) has three parts. First, the Buddha: is one who possesses eight qualities. What are the eight? Unconditioned, spontaneously accomplished, not realized through other conditions, knowing, compassionate, capable, self-benefit, and other-benefit. Among them, the first is being empty of the three: arising, abiding, and ceasing. The second is the complete pacification of all effort and conceptualization. The third is that such a state is not realized through other conditions such as sounds and signs, but is to be realized by the Buddha's own self-born wisdom. The fourth is knowing those three as they are. The fifth is having compassion in order to show that which one has realized to those who have not realized it. The sixth is abandoning the fruit of sentient beings to be tamed—suffering—and the cause—afflictions—by teaching the Dharma through knowing and compassion. The seventh is the first three. The eighth is the latter three. As it says in the Uttaratantra, "Unconditioned and spontaneously accomplished, not realized through other conditions, possessing knowledge, compassion, and capability, the Buddha possesses the two benefits." Second, the Dharma Jewel also possesses eight qualities. What are they? Inconceivable, non-dual, without conceptualization, pure, clear, the qualities of the antidote, and that which is free from attachment, and the qualities by which one is free from attachment. Among them, the first is that conceptualization cannot investigate in any of the four extremes, and it cannot be expressed by words, and it is the object of the samadhi of the noble ones. In short, it is not the object of words and conceptualization, but the object of the samadhi of the noble ones. The second is abandoning all contaminated actions and afflictions as appropriate. The third is abandoning the mind that imputes the causes of those two as pure, happy, permanent, self, etc. These two are the aspects of temporarily being free from stains, while the former is naturally pure. The fourth is that the nature of the path is pure from afflictions and secondary afflictions. The fifth is that it clearly illuminates the suchness of knowable things. The sixth is completely destroying the darkness of the three poisons, etc.
