It is action. From that, it is necessary to understand it. From that, achieving the goal of a person is essential. The connection between these before and after is the connection. The second is: the subject matter, the need, the essential need, and the connection. The four are the subject matter. From speech, it is necessary for doubt or certainty to arise in the mind of a thinking person. From that, entering the treatise is essential. The aspect of these where the latter does not arise without the former is the connection. The third is to show in the text. The second is: just as one makes direct and indirect indications for the main and secondary, so the essential need is directly indicated, and the others are indirectly indicated. If one does it in terms of whether or not it is expressed by words, then the connection is indirect, and the other three are directly indicated. The third is: the four obstacles to a thinking person entering a treatise are: like this, there is no need for this, or even if there is, one cannot accomplish it, or even if one can, it is not desired by the noble ones, or even if it is, one thinks there is another easier way to accomplish it, or one thinks it is not related to this. To that, in order, it is not like a crow observing, but there is a general need, and that need is not like a treatise for taking the crown jewel of a king, but it is able to be accomplished, and the need that is able to be accomplished is not like taking a young girl, but it is the supreme goal of a person, and the method of accomplishing that supreme need is not unrelated to the treatise, like performing animal sacrifices for the sake of heaven, but one enters simply by seeing that it is related to this treatise, therefore it is determined as four, more than that is not needed, and less would not include everything. How is it? In general, to enter for the sake of that result, if one obtains that meaning, one must see it as a special thing that can accomplish one's own need. There are two reasons for not entering it: either one cannot generally accomplish that meaning, or even if one can accomplish it, one thinks that one cannot accomplish it from this treatise and does not enter. To that, there is a general need, and especially by showing that it possesses the supreme essential need of what is desired, the thought of entering for that meaning arises. And also, by understanding a subject matter like this, one can accomplish it, and also by showing that that method is in this treatise, then those two obstacles are eliminated, therefore four are sufficient, and if any one is missing, the entry of a thinking person will also be eliminated, therefore less is not possible. Thus, the connection

If that place is desire, even if the means to achieve desire are seen in the treatises, but one does not practice them, then what is the use of having faith in the treatises for the sake of seeking liberation? It would be better to send them to a school to learn the alphabet. Buddhaśrī considers that this completely eliminates the four extremes of "unspeakable," "unable to do," "not to be desired," and "unrelated." Although reversing what was previously said about the subject matter and the need, I do not think it is appropriate to explain it this way. Some say that in the commentary on the Uttaratantra of Cakrasamvara (Bde mchog stod 'grel), five kinds of perfect expression were mentioned, and Kaśi mentioned three: the subject matter, the need, and the connection, so the difference between many and few is not a fixed number. But this is unreasonable, because for the entry of those with conceptual minds, the good organization of the expression is not the main thing, and it is said to be three because it is intended to combine the two needs to say it. The third has three, among which, the combination is: what connection is there in placing the statements of need and connection after the praise? Because the meaning of the praise is to vow to write a treatise explaining the three wisdoms, and the three wisdoms encompass the eight topics, therefore, in reality, it is vowing to write for the purpose of explaining the eight topics. For those who have little faith and wisdom, for these two types of people, those who have little wisdom will doubt: what is the meaning or need for the Blessed One, the Holy One, the Unconquered One, that is, Maitreya (Byams pa), who has conquered the things to be abandoned that are difficult to conquer, to explain these eight realizations again? There is no meaning or need! In order to eliminate this doubt, and because of the meaning of the subject matter of the statements of need and connection, for the four, such as need, there is almost a doubt of meaning transformation such as "is there?" Therefore, not intentionally, the subject matter of Maitreya's (Ma pham pa) own treatise, the Abhisamayalankara, is the eight topics, and the need to easily understand the need, and the need of the need—the connection with the Dharmakaya (chos sku) is not explicitly stated, so it is said that the needs that exist within the meaning are spoken. "ཏེ་" is quoting the root verse, and it should be understood in the same way elsewhere. The reason for such doubt is that the Blessed One wishes to benefit sentient beings who have faith in the three teachings of extensive, medium, and concise, and who have dull, medium, and sharp faculties.
