Now, among these beliefs, which one should be accepted? Regarding this, the views of Dignāga and the scholars, as well as some commentators of both earlier and later periods, who consider the scriptures as the path and the resulting Prajñāpāramitā as the essence, believe that Prajñāpāramitā exists in the path of learning. This is considering those who regard the scriptures as the path, while considering the essence to exist only in the Buddha-ground. If we explore the intention, it does not seem to refer to the meaning of the name, but rather to the distinction between primary and secondary. As it is said in the commentary on the condensed meaning of the Eight Thousand Verses: "This shows the two meanings of the word Prajñāpāramitā, namely primary and secondary. Among them, the primary is non-dual wisdom, and the secondary is the nature of the scriptures and the path." Also, in the Ornament of Realization, it says: "Prajñāpāramitā is non-dual wisdom, that is the Tathāgata." In this way, the Dharmakāya Tathāgata itself is mainly regarded as Prajñāpāramitā. Even so, scriptures like the Hundred Thousand Verses, as mentioned earlier, are merely appearances of names and concepts in the minds of those to be tamed, and therefore are not the essence of Prajñāpāramitā. Therefore, although the path is secondary, it does not contradict the essence, just like an ordinary person. So, what kind of path is meant? There are three aspects to this: the essence of Prajñāpāramitā, its boundaries, and its definition. The first aspect is divided into two: the basis on which it relies and the essence that relies on it. The first is that some say that all five paths of the three vehicles are the essence of Prajñāpāramitā, as it is said in the Praise of Prajñāpāramitā: "The Buddhas and Pratyekabuddhas, as well as the Śrāvakas, definitely rely on you. You alone are the path to liberation, there is definitely no other." If it is believed that Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas realize the selflessness of phenomena, then it is not contradictory to say that they have Prajñāpāramitā. However, the works of Maitreya and others, as well as the noble ones and scholars, have not said that Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas realize all phenomena as free from elaboration, nor do they accept this view, so it is not accepted here. Therefore, the parts of the three noble paths of the Mahāyāna that realize all phenomena as devoid of inherent existence should be taken as the basis. The second is that the wisdom that directly realizes all phenomena as free from elaboration is the knowledge that has gone or is going to the non-abiding Nirvāṇa. As it is said in the Mother Sutra: "Having fully known that all phenomena are without inherent existence."

This is the supreme practice of Prajñāpāramitā. Whenever conditioned phenomena, unconditioned phenomena, and white and black dharmas are utterly destroyed by wisdom, and even a particle cannot be observed, then there are countless Prajñāpāramitās in the world. It is divided into two parts: refuting the extreme of imputation, and establishing the meaning of existence. The first part is: Some say that since the paths of learning are increasingly superior, Prajñāpāramitā exists only in the realm of the Buddha. Because its meaning is the perfection of wisdom. This is not right. If that were the case, then not even one pāramitā should exist on the path of learning. Therefore, not only the boundary of Prajñāpāramitā, but also the boundary of all pāramitās should be considered in this way. If you also think so, then the two, means and wisdom, of the noble bodhisattvas, the three trainings, the two accumulations, and all of them are placed in the six perfections, then all of these should only be acknowledged in the realm of the Buddha. Because there is no Prajñāpāramitā, the first five pāramitās must also not exist. Because the first five obtain the name of pāramitā by the power of Prajñāpāramitā, which realizes that dharmas have no self-nature. As it says in the Mother Sutra: "If a wheel-turning king is without the seven precious things, he will not obtain the name of wheel-turner. Similarly, if the five pāramitās are without the Prajñāpāramitā of wisdom, they will not obtain the name of pāramitā." Furthermore, on the path of learning, progressing to unsurpassed enlightenment, and the five, generosity, etc., if they do not unerringly lead to omniscience, then the completion of the ten perfections will not lead to the completion of the ten bhūmis, because there is no Prajñāpāramitā. This is universally true. As it says in the Compendium: "All the Buddhas, past and future, who dwell in the ten directions, their path is this pāramitā, and not another." It also says: "The blind, without a guide, even if there are hundreds of thousands of millions, do not know the way, how can they enter the city? Without wisdom, like the blind, the five pāramitās without eyes, without a guide, cannot touch enlightenment." The latter is clear from the text itself. If someone says that these are directed towards imputations, that is not right. Because it does not harm what truly exists. The meaning of the scriptures saying that what truly exists is imputed has already been explained. The paths of learning are increasingly superior, so it is not Prajñāpāramitā.
