Because of this. These three are shown in order by the proposition, the third line, and the first line. The fourth is the treatise and the necessity, or rather, the two necessities are connected as cause and effect, which is by implication. This refers to the view of the Sher 'byung, and in the Tshi gsal it says: The expression of sound is words, the expression of meaning is the mother of the Buddhas, the fundamental meaning is to show the necessity well. To become an ornament for others for the sake of those to be tamed is the ultimate necessity, thus establishing one's own system. Other systems consider that showing the meaning of the words well, thereby becoming the ornament itself, is the necessity. From knowing the entire meaning of the mother of the Buddhas onwards, up to non-abiding nirvana, is the necessity of necessity, so it is thought. But it is impossible for it to be established in that way by commentary alone. Moreover, the power of the root text itself will also be explained below, so it is unreasonable, so it is explained. This is even more unreasonable than that, because it cannot be established by commentary alone, and if that is not its ultimate necessity, then non-abiding nirvana becomes the root of the root, and it is not contradictory that the root commentary and the ultimate necessity are the same. This is the fault of refuting other systems. There is also a fault in establishing one's own system, because showing the words well is composing the commentary well, and composing the commentary cannot reasonably become the necessity of composing the commentary. As shown by the commentary, others understanding it as an ornament is the necessity of composing the commentary, therefore, becoming an ornament is the necessity among the four dharmas such as the necessity of composing the commentary, and it is unreasonable to explain it only as the ultimate necessity. Therefore, the previous explanation is beautiful. The second is, if one composes a commentary that becomes an ornament for all, how is it known that it is an ornament for all? To this question, the answer is: It is known from the explanations of the four scholars. And, when vowing to compose a differentiation, if one asks: Are there other commentaries on the Abhisamayalankara? To this question, there are two ways of showing the connection of existence. Here, it is explained following the former way. There are four of these, for the time being, the way of explaining by Asanga is: He composed an explanation. Of what? Because it gathers all the meaning of the Prajnaparamita Sutra, it is a great treatise.

Although it is said to be an explanation of the Ornament for Clear Realization, it is said that the two brothers did not combine it with the Ornament but only explained the Sutra. In the Commentary on the Words, the treatise is: That which subdues all the enemies of affliction, and that which protects from the suffering of bad migrations, is called a treatise because of its qualities of subduing and protecting. These two are not found in other schools. In this way, by way of definition, it is called a treatise. And this (treatise) is also the particularly excellent mother of all Buddhas (Prajnaparamita Sutra). Or, even if the treatise and the Sutra are not combined, it refers to the fact that the content expressed by the two is the same. Because the noble Asanga is the one who was shown the path by the savior Maitreya, as it is said in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, he shows the path he has seen to others, so he is called the savior, this is certain. What cause does he rely on to save? He has attachment to the five types of beings, like the great Bodhisattvas, he has universal attachment, especially he saves with compassion. So, what kind of special qualities does this teacher have? In the Root Tantra of Manjushri, it says: The monk named Asanga, that treatise is skilled in its meaning, the definitive and provisional meanings of the Sutra, he distinguishes the various differences well, he is the nature of the teacher of worldly knowledge, he becomes a wise man who explains the scriptures. And it is prophesied that: In order to make the teachings last long, he gathers the true meaning of the Sutra, he will live for one hundred and fifty years, after his body is destroyed he will go to the heavenly realm. In the self-commentary of the Ornament of the Middle Way, and in the Opening of the Jewel Garland of the Oral Instructions of the Middle Way, and in the Commentary on the Words, it is said that he attained the third ground. In the lineage of oral instructions, it says: The mother of the Victorious One is the protector Maitreya, the one who has attained the noble path is called Asanga, I will explain the meaning of what he has attained. And in it, it says: The noble Asanga, with compassion, in order to sustain the lives of beings, cut off and gave away all the flesh and blood of his limbs and branches. After that, the protector Maitreya who came from the Tushita heaven appeared, how did he obtain his previous body? With his teachings, he attained the samadhi of the stream of Dharma. Does Asanga explain and lecture only with his own intelligence, or does he rely on the oral instructions of the Guru?
