Is it out of reverence, or out of extreme joy in the heart? For what purpose? There are two purposes for this, of which the self-benefit necessity is, as stated in the "Extensive Play Sutra": "The ripening of merit brings happiness, eliminating all suffering. The wishes of people with merit are also fulfilled. Having destroyed the armies of demons, one quickly attains enlightenment. One obtains the state of peace and coolness that transcends sorrow." Therefore, prostrating to the special object, the Prajñāpāramitā, generates immeasurable merit in the continuum, and by its power, non-merit is reversed, obstacles are pacified, and thus the composition is completed. The necessity for the benefit of others is that in the world, the holy ones first make prostrations and offerings to special objects when engaging in great deeds, and here too, by praising and offering to the Mother, the disciples can recognize that this is the action of a holy one. A deeper necessity is that when people recognize the author as a holy one, they will think: the Prajñāpāramitā to which this holy one prostrates is also what the holy ones should pursue, therefore the Prajñāpāramitā is also holy, thereby enabling the faithful to engage in this treatise with Prajñāpāramitā as its theme. After such prostrations, what is desired? It is to distinguish or want to distinguish the ornate words of that Prajñāpāramitā. Among them, "ornate" is the name of a metaphor. For example, just as seeing a naturally beautiful face adorned with bracelets and other ornaments reflected in a bright mirror and other reflective objects causes people to rejoice, so too here, the natural ornament is the beautiful body of the Mother, adorned with the seventy meanings, and when it appears in a bright treatise, it can cause the wise to rejoice, hence it is called ornate. As stated in the "Ornament of the Sutras": "The ornament of form is naturally endowed with qualities, reflected in a mirror. By the power of seeing, it causes people to generate supreme joy. Similarly, well-spoken words are always endowed with natural qualities. The Dharma can also, by analyzing the meanings, cause the wise to generate supreme joy here." "Words in brief" means that in both commentaries it is said: "Called a verse composition of subsequent praise," and "The name of a verse composed of four lines of eight syllables," which are consistent. "Distinguish" means to distinguish only the meaning.

Therefore, this is the vow to compose a treatise. What is the necessity of doing this? As it is said in the "Tree of Wisdom": "Many noble ones do not easily make promises, but if they do make a promise with difficulty, it is like drawing a picture on a stone, even in death it will not change." Thus, it is for the sake of completing the composition. What necessity is there even in distinguishing? It is for the sake of understanding the Prajnaparamita of the nature of the path, fruit, and essence, as the adornment of all, whether extensive, intermediate, or concise. If it is said that since this composition itself is already an adornment, there is no need to make it an adornment, there is no fault in that. For example, if bracelets and other ornaments of men and women are already adornments, but become stained with dirt, then the necessity of the adornment cannot bring joy. Therefore, the adornment of adornment is to remove dirt. Thus, although it has been shown that "the adornment that pleases the wise is the verse itself," due to not understanding or having wrong views, or because it is thought that this treatise does not clarify the meaning of the Mother Sutra, the stain of controversy may arise that it is not an adornment. To this, the Acharya directly shows the words and composes this commentary that is clear in meaning and easy in words, thereby removing those stains and making it an adornment, so this is the adornment of adornment. As Acharya Kashi said: "Because it removes the stains of bad controversies, this is the adornment of Madhyamaka." This is in accordance with that. Which? Because it is the cause of higher realms and definite goodness, the eight Abhisamayas are the adornment of that Mother Sutra. Thus, if, as previously said, "it is the adornment of all, such as the Abhidharma Pitaka," then even the word "verse" of that adornment is not seen, it is clear, and the latter also contradicts the author's intention. Thus, this verse also shows the subject matter, necessity, ultimate necessity, and connection of composing the commentary. Among them, the first is the Abhisamaya Alankara, because it is what is to be explained. The second is the understanding of the adornment of the three Mother Sutras, because it is what is to be attained. The third is that by relying on this, when hearing, thinking, and meditating are completed, one obtains the wisdom of the Tathagata, whose other name is Prajnaparamita. When this is obtained, the wishes of the individual are fulfilled, so there is no need to seek other necessities.
