If asked why, it is because the former is the holy one of gods and humans, the ruler of the world, and even Ishvara and Vishnu etc. cannot defeat him, so he is invincible. For the protector of sentient beings, you, that is, yourself, first listened, then thought and meditated well on its meaning, thereby making it firm. It is said that, in the legends, in Tushita, he listened to Maitreya for fifty years. The old commentary of the Sakya school says six months. At that time, the venerable one, for the sake of Asanga, composed the Abhisamayalankara etc., which is well known among the wise. In the Aloka commentary on the Ornament it says: It is heard that the noble Asanga had understood the meaning of all the scriptures and attained realization, but, regarding the aspects of repeated and non-repeated teachings, he did not see the distinctions of words, and because of its profundity, he could not infer the meaning of the Prajnaparamita. Therefore, he became unhappy. Then, for this meaning, he pleased the Bhagavan noble Maitreya, and composed the explanation of the Prajnaparamita Sutra, the treatise in verse form of the Abhisamayalankara. After listening to that, the teacher noble Asanga again explained it to the teacher Vasubandhu etc. The Moonlight commentary says: Because it is extremely profound, it is difficult for non-Bodhisattvas to understand, so the compassionate noble Maitreya, in order to make them understand, after summarizing it, at that time, clarified it with the treatise in verse form of the Abhisamayalankara. To say that the noble Asanga practiced and then did it later is the mistake of Simhabhadra etc. To say that after doing it earlier, it is then narrated is the saying of others. Such an explanation is unreasonable, because there is no other source of knowledge, and most of the wise have passed down the earlier story. Where is it? Just like, "The noble Asanga, with his clear fame and wisdom, became the most excellent one, he fully elucidated it, and perfectly combined it." Calling this the Abhisamayalankara of the Twenty Thousand Verses needs to be examined.

Secondly, the way Vasubandhu explained it is: it is called "thoroughly explained." Where is it explained? It is the same as before. By what is it explained? It is explained by the root and branches named Vasubandhu, because he points out the cause for beings to obtain higher realms and definite goodness, which is the faultless path, thereby fulfilling their wishes. Where is it explained? Among those who are arrogant with the knowledge of being skilled in distinguishing between real and unreal. As Master Vasubandhu said, "In the commentary of the treatise, he obtained the position of explaining the meaning." Like that, it is explained in the commentary of the Twenty Thousand Verses. In what way is it explained? It is explained by relying accurately on the way of the Mind-Only school, which believes that there is no external world, and all phenomena that appear as objects of knowledge are merely appearances of the inner mind, and the nature of the mind itself is real. The reason for this is that the master himself mainly inclines towards the view of the Mind-Only school, that is, he values it. Similarly, in the Clear Words, it is also said, "The noble Asanga and Master Vasubandhu explained the Prajnaparamita as the ultimate view of the Mind-Only school, not divided into eight matters. Because this 'Meaningful Words of the Great Vehicle Madhyamaka View' was not the domain of Master Vasubandhu, the noble Asanga, through obtaining the Earth Light (Bodhisattva Earth Light Samadhi), also explained it in a way that tames, for the benefit of one sentient being, I will remain until the edge of samsara." Therefore, following these words, and the difficult-to-understand appearances, as well as Prajnabhava and Buddhasri, also explain it as Mind-Only. In the oral tradition, in the commentary of the Twenty Thousand Verses, the teachings of Nagarjuna are quoted as evidence to explain, so one cannot say that it contradicts his view. If one does not cling to Mind-Only, one cannot grasp the ocean of emptiness. Therefore, just as the Buddha held to Mind-Only, the way the noble ones spoke of the Mind-Only is also provisional, and so on. After explaining these, relying on the inner knowable, Vasubandhu made a thorough explanation, refuting this statement. Furthermore, the Sutra Masters transformed the treatises of the noble ones into Mind-Only to explain, and this was also refuted by Master Chandrakirti in the Entering the Middle Way. There, the ultimate Prajnaparamita is also refuted.
