And, it is a word to gather the following. The following two are also the same. Regarding this, as Adu has accepted, there are three: the basis, the method, and the result, plus its reasonability, making four. The first is: As stated in the Bodhisattva Pitaka: "The liberation of the Hearers comes from sound; the Pratyekabuddhas possess the awareness of conditions." Thus, one must also listen with sound, and also cause the disciples to hear with sound, the Hearers, and those who incline towards the path of the Hearers, merely by realizing the cause of dependent origination, they proclaim the Dharma of attaining enlightenment, and listening without relying on sound, the Solitary Realizers, that is, those who desire to attain the peace of Nirvana only for themselves. However, the word "also" is not limited to the Hearers. If asked: If the Pratyekabuddha is not shown in the root verse, how should it be understood? Answer: Although not directly shown, it is indirectly shown by the order of the words in the root verse, that is, by the words showing the basis in the first verse of the root. The reason is that here it is shown that with the basis of the method, the foundational wisdom, one obtains the two results of the lesser vehicle's quiescence. The Pratyekabuddha must also rely on that method to obtain that result. If asked: If it is combined with the Hearers, is there no difference? Answer: There is a difference superior to the Hearers. In what way is it superior? It is slightly different in abandoning the grasping of objects and realizing the liberation of non-grasping. Some people think that the reason for inclining towards the path of the Hearers is that the result and desire are the same, so if so, is there no difference between the two? In response to this, one should add "surpassing by one level of order," and use the superiority of liberation as its reason. Other views: If one thinks that the Hearers and Pratyekabuddhas are shown by one level of order, then there will only be two vehicles left, which is well said. The realization of the individual lesser vehicle, with the foundational wisdom thinking only of one's own benefit, is the same in order, so the saying "inclining towards the path of the Hearers" has not entered the meaning of the words. The second is: Children grasp at self and what belongs to self, while the noble ones have determined non-self, and as a basis for abandoning self-grasping, therefore the basis, that is, all the aggregates, elements, and sense bases, are unborn, that is, with the self of the individual and what is grasped, from the beginning, emptiness, the foundational wisdom that is completely known. Here, "indeed" is the condition of things.

It is not said to be a definite understanding of applying expedients. Third, the nature of nirvana with remainder and nirvana without remainder, which are the two kinds of quiescence that pacify afflictions and suffering. So, what is the difference between these two? There are three views on this: the Śrāvakayāna school, the Mind-Only school, and the Madhyamaka school. The first has two parts: which nirvana is considered to have remainder or no remainder. The first view is: Some explain that the difference is that the origin is completely abandoned, but suffering is not abandoned, and that suffering is also completely abandoned, which is unreasonable. Because Arhats also certainly have the karma and afflictions that cause rebirth, although they have been completely exhausted. In the commentary Tika Don Sal, it says: Arhats, in the state of ordinary beings, have created karma that is not certain whether it is virtuous or non-virtuous, but because there is no cause for growth, these karmas cannot realize rebirth. And, in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, it says: The dwelling of those who are free from desire is due to love or karma. Other karmas cannot cause rebirth for those who have completely overcome the craving for existence, because the co-operative cause has been exhausted. And so on, it is said many times in the upper and lower scriptures that contaminated karma exists. Therefore, it is considered that the difference is that although afflictions are completely abandoned, the continuum of the aggregates is not reversed, and that the continuum of the aggregates is cut off. In the commentary on the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning, it says: Among them, nirvana with remainder is only the exhaustion of the aggregates, and is liberated from the bonds of afflictions. Nirvana without remainder is the nature of the cessation of the continuum of the aggregates, as previously stated. Both schools believe that Arhats abandon the conditioned aggregates of life, and that consciousness no longer connects to subsequent existence, but only abides in the realm of peace. Second, what is the nature of nirvana? It is the unconditioned among the two, conditioned and unconditioned. Among them, the Kashmir Vaibhāṣikas believe that the two cessations and space, that is, three unconditioned dharmas, and on top of that, adding Suchness, the Udyāna Vaibhāṣikas establish four, as explained in Yeshe Nyingpo's Compendium of Topics. Therefore, in the Blaze of Reasoning, the Vaibhāṣika scriptures say that the unconditioned is the two cessations.
