The stream-enterer who has not abandoned even one affliction to be abandoned through cultivation is called "seven-times more" because he will be born up to seven times. The term "one who follows by faith" means the worst of all, since not all are like that. Furthermore, even in the intermediate state, the noble path manifests, but one does not completely pass beyond suffering, because one is accumulating the power of karma to experience existence. If that is a human being, the auto-commentary says: It should be considered that those who transfer upwards can also be liberated from suffering in the intermediate state. Since reaching the ultimate end of Akanistha and the peak of existence means that one will not go any further, just like a stream-enterer who has reached the ultimate is like the seven-times more. Also, the name "one who follows by faith" seems to indicate that until the final birth is taken, it is uncertain whether or not one will take it. In general, a stream-enterer who follows by faith as a seven-times more can take one birth and be liberated, or take up to seven births and be liberated, so it is not necessarily seven. However, in the context of the fruit, the abandonment of cultivation, etc., what is taught here is that the specific case of definitely taking seven times is given a general name, so considering this, the birth of the one who follows by faith as a seven-times more is determined. The auto-commentary says: Although there are other seven-times more, they are not mentioned because they are uncertain. The reason why other seven-times more are not mentioned is because they are uncertain, but here it is taught that one will definitely take seven times. The way to take birth is that if one attains stream-entry on the basis of a human being, one takes six times in the human realm and seven times in the divine realm, and finally is born in the human realm and is liberated. If one attains it on the basis of a god, one takes six times in the divine realm and seven times in the human realm, and finally is liberated on the basis of a god. In this way, the fourteen births and deaths of gods and humans, and the fourteen intermediate states, make a total of twenty-eight, but because they are similar in groups of seven, they are called seven-times more, like a monk who is skilled in the seven abodes and a seven-leaved tree. In short, the stream-enterer who has not abandoned any afflictions to be abandoned through cultivation and who wants to gradually take two births is the general case of the one who follows by faith as a seven-times more, and the specific case of the seven-times more has already been mentioned. This only applies to the first author; if one abandons one affliction and takes one birth, then the characteristic is destroyed. Secondly, possessing three special qualities.

That is, the abandonment of the three or four types of desire realm afflictions, without abandoning the fifth, and the realization of obtaining the antidote, the uncontaminated faculty, and the difference in birth of taking two or three births in the same kind of desire realm gods and humans. As the Abhidharmakośa says, "Liberated from three or four, two or three lives in lineage." Also, regarding not abandoning the fifth, the auto-commentary says, "Why is it not because of abandoning the five aspects? Because if that is abandoned, the sixth will inevitably be abandoned. And, because it does not transcend the realm." The meaning is, if the fifth is abandoned, there is no need to transcend the realm, so the sixth will be abandoned. If that is the case, it will become a once-returner, so it will not take two births in one desire realm being, so it is not suitable to become a lineage-born. Therefore, it is thought that apart from taking three births, the lineage-born will perish in characteristics after one birth. Regarding this, are the abandoned objects abandoned after the sixteenth or before the path of seeing? The auto-commentary says, "Previously abandoning the three and four aspects, abandoning the seven and eight, obtaining the fruit, as long as the path of special fruit is not manifested, it is not born in lineage or one interval." The implication of what was said is that it also speaks of the lineage-born who abandons the three and four types of desire realm afflictions before the path of seeing, so both should be accepted. This scripture also shows that one interval also has prior detachment. Thus, the lineage-born is divided into two types: gods and humans. The second is divided into two: the stream-enterer is the one who dwells in the fruit of the stream-enterer, when striving to obtain the once-returner, has not abandoned any of the five to be abandoned by cultivation, or between striving to abandon the sixth, is the one who enters the once-returner. As the Abhidharmakośa says, "Destroying between the five aspects, is also entering the second fruit." The second is, when the enterer abandons the sixth of the desire realm afflictions, it is the once-returner. As it says, "The sixth aspect is exhausted, that is the once-returner." That is, when abiding on the path of liberation of abandoning the sixth, abiding in the fruit is merely between that and the ninth, when striving to abandon, it is special. The difference of the latter, one life one interval is abandoning the seventh and eighth afflictions, obtaining the antidote, the uncontaminated faculty, leaving one remaining birth.
