Moreover, some say that if the physical body is not the Buddha, then drawing blood from it with malicious intent will not constitute an immediate offense. To this, the Vaibhashikas say that harming the support also harms what depends on it. For example, harming the eye also harms eye consciousness. To this, the teacher says that the scriptures do not say that only the non-learner is the Buddha, but rather that the Dharma that leads to Buddhahood is mentioned. Therefore, the meaning is that the Buddha and the causes that establish Buddhahood are the Buddha. Because it is not forbidden that the support is not the Buddha, arguing that it will not constitute an immediate offense is not permissible to find fault with the scriptures. If the intention of the scriptures is not like that, then when the Buddha and the Sangha manifest worldly minds, they will become non-Buddha and non-Sangha, because the learners and non-learners are without outflows, and they and the two worldly minds cannot be manifested together. Therefore, at that time, there are no learners or non-learners, and the support is not them either. This is what is said. These are the explanations of the two commentaries and what is attached to them. Therefore, here the teacher explains the support as the Buddha, which is clearly also the view of the Sutrantikas. Apart from this difference, the Sutrantikas also agree with this way of establishing the Three Jewels. Secondly, it is divided into three parts. First, the Buddha is one who possesses eight qualities. What are the eight? Unconditioned, spontaneously accomplished, not realized by other causes, knowing, compassionate, capable, self-benefit, and other-benefit. Among them, the first is empty of the three: arising, ceasing, and abiding. The second is that all effort and conceptualization are completely pacified. The third is that such a thing is not realized by other causes such as sounds and signs, but is to be realized by the Buddha's own self-born wisdom. The fourth is to know those three as they are. The fifth is to have compassion in order to show what one has realized to those who have not realized it. The sixth is to teach the Dharma through the gate of knowledge and compassion, thereby causing the disciples to abandon the suffering result and the cause of affliction. The seventh is the first three. The eighth is the last three. In this regard, the Uttaratantra says: Unconditioned and spontaneously accomplished, not by other causes.

Those who have not realized. Endowed with wisdom, compassion, and power. The Buddha who possesses the two benefits. Thus it is. Secondly, the Dharma Jewel also possesses eight qualities. What are they? Unthinkable, non-dual, without discrimination, pure, clear, the qualities of the opponent side, as well as the qualities of being free from attachment, and the qualities by which one is free from attachment. Among them, the first is that conceptual thought cannot be examined in any of the four extremes, it is inexpressible, and it is the object of noble equipoise. In short, it is not the object of verbal thought, but the object of noble equipoise. The second is the abandonment of contaminated actions and afflictions as appropriate. The third is the abandonment of the mind that clings to the cause of these two as pure, blissful, permanent, self, etc. These two are the aspects of temporary freedom from defilements, while the former is naturally pure. The fourth is that the nature of the path is purified of afflictions and near afflictions. The fifth is to clarify the suchness of knowable things. The sixth is to completely destroy the darkness of the three poisons and so on. Therefore, the truth of the path is like the sun. The seventh is the first three, namely the cessation truth, and the eighth is the latter three, namely the qualities of the path truth. Moreover, it is said in the Uttaratantra: Unthinkable, non-dual, without discrimination, Pure, clear, the nature of the opponent side, By what and by whom is detachment achieved, That which possesses the nature of the two truths is the Dharma. Detachment itself is cessation, Embraced by the truth of the path. In due order, these too, Should be understood by three qualities. Thus it is. Therefore, in the root text, generally only cessation and the path are said to be the Dharma Jewel, but the cessation and path of the Mahayana must be taken, and the path truth here should be regarded as the seeing and meditation of the Mahayana. As it is said in the explanation of the Dharma Jewel: The name of the cessation of suffering, the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata, the cause of obtaining this result, namely the non-discriminating wisdom, the path of seeing and meditation, should be understood like the sun by three corresponding methods. Thirdly, the Sangha Jewel is: The wisdom of suchness and the extent of things, as well as the contemplation of inner wisdom, and the pure qualities of contemplation, that is, the non-regressing Bodhisattva who possesses these four unsurpassed qualities.
