For the sake of listening, one travels in all the world realms. Secondly, in the Ornament it says: At that time, from the lineage of the Dharma, in order to obtain peace and vast wisdom from the Buddhas, one will obtain vast instructions. Thus, it relies on the samadhi of the Dharma lineage. This has three aspects. First, the definition: When one is in meditative equipoise, one has the memory and samadhi that can hold countless words and meanings of the scriptures from the Buddhas. Second, the explanation of the term: It is the ability to continuously or uninterruptedly hold the words and meanings of the Dharma scriptures. Third, the boundary: In the Great Commentary, it says: The path to attaining the first ground, the supreme samadhi of worldly Dharma, is called the samadhi of the Dharma lineage, which refers to the special qualities of those who practice Dharma. In the Ornament Manifest, it says: In this stage of accumulation, when the mind becomes workable, one obtains the samadhi called the Dharma lineage, which enables one to hold words and meanings. Third, although it is explained as only the Buddha, but as in "to the Buddhas and so on who reside in the ten directions," Buddhas and virtuous friends who can teach the Mahayana instructions are also acceptable, because even in the Mahayana instructions like the Mother Sutra, there are many Shravaka teachers. Fourth, some say that the words directly taught by the Buddha are unreasonable, because the teacher of special instructions is not necessarily the Buddha, as shown before, and it is also not necessarily the Buddha's words in general, because like the Abhisamayalankara, it also fulfills the meaning of special instructions. Therefore, all the sutras and treatises that fully teach the path to enlightenment for those of the Mahayana lineage are special instructions. In the Clear Words, after presenting the views of other schools that consider the path as instructions, it says: After that, either the teaching is the same, or how to practice according to the teaching is also the main instruction here, both the words of teaching and the practice according to the teaching are instructions, and the latter is the main one, which explains that this is their own supreme school. In the Lamp of Condensed Meaning, the essence is the wheel of speech.

As it is said, in both the commentary and the explanation, showing the action of attaining the meaning that is sought is instruction and subsequent teaching. Protecting the qualities that have already been attained so that they do not diminish is the essential instruction. After that, it is subsequent teaching in order to attain the qualities that have not yet been attained. This is explained in terms of expression. Also, in Dagden, it says, "Speaking in order to understand is the essential instruction." And, "Admonishment is the essential instruction." Since the great ones agree, the essential instruction is the characteristic of expression, and practicing according to the teaching is the result of the essential instruction. Fifth, Sherjung says that from the stage of the first practitioner up to the stage of Buddhahood, cultivating the mind of enlightenment with essential instructions is completely pure. In Tsiksal, it says, "There is no need to seek it on the uninterrupted path, because it is able to generate self-arising wisdom." Therefore, at the time of the last existence, one can attain enlightenment without relying on others, so one does not rely on essential instructions. If we set the boundary from the point of view of having to listen to the essential instructions, this detail is good. If we set the boundary from the point of view of the teacher, it is up to the stage of Buddhahood, as the former said. Second, there are two parts: the connecting passage and the explanation of the meaning. The first is that the essence of the generation of the mind is mainly shown, and the distinctions are made only in its stages, so the distinctions are mentioned incidentally, and then the essential instructions are spoken. As above, teaching from the ten objects to the bodhisattva who has generated the first mind of enlightenment with desire and so on is the essential instruction. What kind of bodhisattva is it? It is like the time, that is, in accordance with the occasion of generating the mind of enlightenment as the cause, and seeking the essential instruction. For what purpose? In order to generate the mind of enlightenment, and to accomplish all the white dharmas that are produced by the thought of that mind, it is a subsequent teaching. And, relying on a spiritual friend, the merit of not taking refuge in other gods, etc., in order to make the merit that has already been attained increase more and more, is the need for essential instruction, for these two purposes. By what means? In order to keep the qualities that have already been attained from diminishing.
