Entering the mind of enlightenment begins with great joy. It is believed that there is a difference in whether or not the (first bhumi) has been attained. The great master also thinks so. The commentary says: Aspiration is just aspiration, and it has not been taken through the ritual of accumulating resources and generating this mind. Entering means the practice of cultivation included from the arising of the mind of enlightenment from pleasing the virtuous friend and properly receiving it, to the uninterrupted path. After saying this, Shantideva's aspiration and the quotation of entering are cited as evidence. In this way, whether or not to receive through rituals, and whether or not to obtain non-retrogression, and making vows on the fruit and cause, there are different views, but they have not understood well, because this is contrary to the view of Shantideva in the Sutra of the Arrayed Tree and its explanation. Second, in the Compendium of Trainings, it says: There are two types of bodhicitta, namely aspiring bodhicitta and entering bodhicitta. The Sutra of the Arrayed Tree says: Sons of good family, those sentient beings who aspire to the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment are also rare. Even more rare are those sentient beings who actually enter into enlightenment than those who aspire to the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Like this. Also, as it says in the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life: In brief, the mind of enlightenment should be known to be of two types: the mind of aspiring to enlightenment and the very act of entering into enlightenment. Just as there is a difference between wanting to go and actually going, so the wise should know the difference between these two in sequence. The views of these scriptures are consistent, so it is explained in this way. That is to say, Sheng Sheng quoted this teaching and said: Although it does not go beyond the scope of seeking perfect enlightenment for the benefit of others, the nature is also different due to the existence or non-existence of the actions of body, speech, and mind, and it should be understood in this way. Therefore, first of all, great compassion for sentient beings arises, and then on this basis, the simple thought of becoming a Buddha in order to liberate them from samsara arises, which is aspiration. After that, starting from taking vows, etc., even if one enters into any one of the six perfections of unsurpassed enlightenment practice, it is considered entering.

It makes sense. Therefore, both aspiration and engagement are similar in that their essence is the thought of attaining Buddhahood for the sake of others, but these two are contradictory because of whether or not they are encompassed by the act of cultivating Bodhi. For example, it is like merely giving rise to the thought of wanting to go to that place, and then being encompassed by the act of embarking on the road and walking. Therefore, aspiration is only the initial thought. As it is said in the first stage of the Stages of Meditation: "The mind of Bodhi is also of two kinds, namely the mind of engagement and the mind of aspiration." After saying this, he quoted the previous scripture of the Arrangement of Trees. It also says, "To become a Buddha for the benefit of those beings, what is initially sought is the mind of aspiration. Whoever henceforth takes vows and enters the accumulations, that is the mind of engagement." Furthermore, Yeshe Drakpa said: "By the distinction of intention and the like, the mind of aspiration is of three kinds. The minds called engagement are considered to be nineteen." In this way, the boundary between aspiration and engagement is drawn for the twenty-two minds of generation, and the previously quoted scripture of the Arrangement of Trees is cited as evidence, and to recognize the mind of engagement as explained by Kamalaśīla is unreasonable. Because entering the great accumulation path of the Great Vehicle must be regarded as heading towards Bodhi, the quoted scripture does not serve as evidence, and since there are no vows on the accumulation path, there is no evidence. Furthermore, it is unreasonable for those who believe that there is no engagement for ordinary beings, since obtaining vows will lead to engagement. Because the Compendium of Trainings says: "Is it possible or not to give the vows of a Bodhisattva even to those who are not included? It should be considered possible." This contradicts the above view. Therefore, aspiration is established on the small accumulation path, and engagement is established from the middle one, and the sutra says that in the stage of having intention, one should train in the six perfections. The teacher Lhawang Blo also said in the explanation of meditating on the meaning of the Prajñāpāramitā: "The mind of Bodhi is of two kinds, namely the mind of aspiration Bodhi and the mind of engagement Bodhi. Among them, the mind of aspiration Bodhi is like the earth. The mind of engagement Bodhi is like gold to clouds, there are twenty-one." This teacher also said in the Ornament of Manifestation...
