It is said thus. Others say: In order to abandon the unfavorable aspects, all the favorable aspects should be shown. Some say: In order to fully know all knowable things, all aspects should be shown. It should be understood as such. Some of those meanings are: just to understand the distinctions of things, dharmas, and three, just the distinctions of the number, definition, and nature of those three; just to abandon the unfavorable aspects, (one should show) all the antidotes; just to know all the categories of knowable things, (one should show) all aspects such as substances and imputations. They think so. The basis of those confusions is: In the sutras, aggregates, elements, sources, grounds and paramitas, etc., good and non-good, defiled and undefiled, with and without faults, etc., many differences are taught. Therefore, the aspects here should not be taken as the categories of names of the three dharmas of good and non-good, etc., arising from the Abhidharma, and the distinctions and nature of the objects of cognition. Both the former and our own schools agree that the base, the antidote, and the aspects are summarized, but the difference lies in the way of teaching and the necessity. Thus, the view of the former school is as explained above. The self-view is that the sutra and its ornament summarize the three aspects of the base, antidote, and aspects in order to know the three wisdoms of the object-possessor in sequence, and also to show the place of error, the cause, and the result to be obtained. If one does not understand the difference between for what purpose and how the three aspects of the base, antidote, and aspects are shown, and only hopes to add the word "only" to those three, then these debates and answers will not stop even until the end of the kalpa. The second (part) has two: debate and answer. The first (part) has two: asking the question and refuting it. The first is: In the context of offering praise, praising through the three wisdoms, because it is a praise and homage that is consistent with the subject matter, it implicitly promises to compose a treatise that makes those three wisdoms the subject matter. Some say that, as mentioned earlier, summarizing in sequence, making homage and praise before the body of the treatise implies that one will compose a treatise that establishes the subject matter of the sutra, called "Ornament for Clear Realization."

If one promises to do something, because it cannot be expressed through the nature of the three knowledges, it is necessary to relate these three realms to the realm, explaining that knowing in this way is wisdom. Moreover, in order to generate the wisdom of proper discrimination, the content spoken of in the Mother Sutra is merely a distinction of the number, characteristics, and nature of the basis aggregates, elements, and sense bases; in order to abandon the opposing side, either all the antidotes, or merely the three paths of enlightenment, and in order to know all the categories of knowable things, merely a distinction of the aspects of things and imputations, etc. Thus, the content spoken of is summarized into three views. Here, the treatise makes any one of these three views, i.e., whatever is summarized as the content spoken of, as the ornament of the Mother Sutra. The second view is: no matter which of these three views is explained, it will not become the ornament of the Mother Sutra. If according to the first way of examining, then the effort of separately explaining the ornament from the Abhidharma will become meaningless, because it merely explains the distinction of the number, characteristics, and nature of the three dharmas. This is pervasive, because if that were the case, it would become a repetition of what has already been established. Because this Ornament of Clear Realization explains the difference between self-characteristics and general characteristics, it is a treatise on characteristics, and some say that whatever basis has not appeared in the Abhidharma collection will not appear here. But this is because the way the basis is explained in the Abhidharma is the way it is explained here. Therefore, there is also the fault of repeating the Abhidharma. If one applies it to the way of explaining the basis, there is the fault of repetition; if one applies it to the content to be explained, even if one only says "only this," one cannot establish repetition, because the three dharmas explained in the Abhidharma have encompassed all that is knowable. Or, here, merely by showing that the wrong conceptions that appear in the sutra and these three views are not the content spoken of in the sutra, one also realizes that they are not the content spoken of in the treatise. Therefore, the effort of adding the ornament is meaningless. Even if one explains the Ornament of Clear Realization as an ornament like the Lord of Reason, it is still appropriate to regard it as a sutra, because the Sunlight Treatise and the Commentary on Valid Cognition also say "from the sutra." If according to the second way of examining, even if one says "this path should be cultivated," one will not understand what antidote this path is to what is to be abandoned, because the objects of all afflictions, such as the clinging to the apprehended and the apprehender, etc., have not been summarized as the content spoken of.
