Attachment and, the noble ones have established selflessness, thereby becoming the basis for abandoning self-grasping, therefore, the basis, the aggregates, elements, and sense bases are all unborn, that is, empty from the beginning with the grasping of a person and the object grasped, the basis of complete knowledge is knowledge itself. Here, "ཉིད་" should be connected as a cause of things, not explained as a definite qualifier. The third is: the characteristic of having residual aggregates and not having residual aggregates, that is, Nirvana that has become the essence, is the quiescence of pacifying afflictions and suffering, these two kinds of quiescence. So, what is the difference between these two? There are three analyses of this: the Hearer Vehicle school, the Mind-Only school, and the Middle Way school. The first has two: which Nirvana is considered to have the meaning of residual or non-residual? The first is: some explain that even if all arising is abandoned, suffering is not abandoned; and that suffering is also completely abandoned, this is the difference, which is not reasonable. Because for an Arhat, although the karma and afflictions that definitely project rebirth are completely exhausted, in the Commentary on the Meaning Clarified, it says: "For Arhats, the karma of rebirth done in the state of ordinary beings, whether virtuous or non-virtuous, is not necessarily non-existent, but because there is no condition to increase them, these karmas cannot manifest rebirth." And in the Compendium on Valid Cognition, it says: "The existence of the desireless is due to love or karma." And "Other karma cannot project from those who have completely transcended the craving for existence, because the accompanying factors have been exhausted." And so on, in the upper and lower texts, it is explained many times that there is contaminated karma. Therefore, even if afflictions are completely abandoned, the continuum of aggregates has not ceased; and the continuum of aggregates has ceased, these two are considered different. In the Commentary on the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning, it says: "Among them, having residual aggregates means that it is merely aggregates, having been liberated from the bonds of afflictions. Not having residual aggregates means that it is the characteristic of the continuum of aggregates having ceased." As in the previous tenets. Both schools consider that Arhats abandon the activity of life, and consciousness does not connect with the subsequent existence, but is merely the realm of peace. Second, what is the nature of Nirvana? Is it conditioned or unconditioned of the two? It is unconditioned. To this, the Kashmir Vaibhashika school considers it to be two cessations.

And adding space to the three unconditioned dharmas, the Vaibhashikas of the central region consider adding Suchness to be four. This is what Yeshe Nyingpo said in the commentary on the Compendium. Therefore, in the Blaze of Reasoning, the Vaibhashika scriptures say: Unconditioned dharmas are the two cessations, space, and Suchness. And in its commentary it says: Suchness refers to the emptiness of the nature of things, represented by what was not before, what is not after destruction, what is not one in the other, and what is completely not. These are permanent dharmas because they are unchanging in nature. Thus, among the four unconditioned dharmas, both consider the two nirvanas to be separate analytical cessations. The difference is that the Vaibhashikas consider it to be the nature of "not being," while the Sautrantikas consider it to be the nature of "non-being," which is explained in detail in the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha. It is also said in the asceticism of Avalokiteshvara: Those who say that it exists as substance are those who say that it is a real thing, such as the Samkhya, Vaisheshika, Vaibhashika, and Yogachara schools. Those who say that it does not exist as substance are those who say that there is no real thing, such as the Dharmaguptaka, Sautrantika, and Lokayata schools. In the Ornament of Realization, it is said: The Vaibhashika's definition of the three unconditioned dharmas, that is, the explanation of nirvana with remainder and nirvana without remainder, although intending to explain the view of the Kashmir Vaibhashikas, mistakenly quotes the views of other schools in the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha, and explains the cessation of afflictions as analytical cessation and the cessation of aggregates as non-analytical cessation, which contradicts the explanation of the Sautrantika's view in the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha. The second is that the meaning of remainder and non-remainder is the same as before, and the nature is summarized as the characteristic of the Dharmadhatu being extremely pure. In the Commentary on the Detailed Explanation, it is said: The nirvana realm with remainder aggregates and without remainder aggregates is analytical cessation. This view also holds that at the time of non-remainder, the stream of consciousness will be cut off, therefore, even if the two obscurations abandoned by the path are not exhausted, but because there is no basis, they will naturally revert, therefore the nirvana of the great and small vehicles...
