In the Moonlight, for those who have the lineage of transcending suffering, the lineage ground is the state that corresponds to the part of discernment. In some cases, the first three that correspond to the part of discernment are, in the ground of white appearance, the lineage ground is the state of the highest Dharma, thus established, but it should not be established here. One's own school establishes the path of joining as the lineage ground, thereby preventing other schools. In the two major and minor diminutions, in this case, successively explaining the practice of aspiration and great patience, and the two of heat peak and supreme patience, successively as white appearance and lineage ground. From the smaller one, it is called the ground of white appearance because one first sees the white Dharma that is completely purified. This lineage ground is of the three Bodhis. As it is said in the Diminution of the Hundred Thousand Verses: In the ground of practice of aspiration, when one abides in heat, peak, patience, and the supreme Dharma, it is called the lineage ground because one possesses the lineage of the three Bodhis. Although there are various kinds, the meaning of the word "etc." used by both the noble and the teacher is that it includes both the self-Buddha and the Mahayana. The so-called "lineage" also refers to whatever realization arises in the accumulation and practice of aspiration, from which one does not turn back until one attains one's own Bodhi, so it must be counted from then on. If this is done, for the Hearers, going to peace from the two is certain on the path of accumulation, so from then on until the highest Dharma, from the path of seeing until the eighth ground, etc., will occur. Becoming Bodhi is uncertain, so it is not counted. For the self-Buddha, like the rhinoceros from the two, it is the same as before, and the accumulation and practice are uncertain. For the Mahayana, if the faculties are very sharp, then it is certain from the path of accumulation, so from then on until the highest Dharma is possible, while the medium and dull faculties are uncertain there. The first fruit, the realization of entering the fruit of stream-enterer, is the eighth ground. Counting upwards from the Arhat, it will fall on the eighth place. If one holds the initial entry from the path of joining, then the path of seeing cannot cover it, and if one follows the etymological explanation, then for the instantaneous entry, there is no meaning in the word. The realization of merely entering the fruit of stream-enterer is the path of seeing, that is, through the path that transcends the world, one sees the selflessness of the person.
