These, in order to abide in pure conduct, are called the merits of training by training the mind to be workable. Not abandoning the precepts is: not abandoning the precepts of vows that one has taken, even for the sake of life and so on, or for the sake of body and possessions. In short, as it says, "All precepts are without characteristics," it means not clinging to the characteristics of the precepts. Reproaching desires is: reproaching the qualities of desires, such as forms, sounds, etc., by viewing them as faults or as undesirable. Nirvana is: guiding sentient beings to engage in nirvana in accordance with the minds of those to be tamed. In short, what is the nirvana and generation of the mind of great enlightenment? It is like what appears in the Ornament of Realization and Moonlight Sutra: "Whatever does not manifestly engage with all phenomena." The meaning is that all phenomena are naturally in nirvana, pacified from proliferation, and one does not conceptually cling to their characteristics. Shantideva said, "Give up sorrow and all possessions." This is spoken in relation to disillusionment, and the ten mentioned as the number of complete trainings of the fifth ground can also be applied here. The sutra's meaning is how the bodhisattva himself attends to it, while the commentary shows how that attention leads others to engage in nirvana, so there is no contradiction. Giving up all possessions is: giving up all possessions by not clinging to the characteristics of external and internal phenomena such as the body. Not being timid is: not being timid in accomplishing virtuous Dharma, not clinging to objects, and not abiding. Having no views is: not looking at the characteristics of all things, which is called the ten. The second is: to subdue. From where? The fourth is radiant. Why is it called that? Because: The Dharma that accords with enlightenment is like a fire that burns completely. Because it possesses that, that ground is radiant because it burns the two obscurations. It is said that the wisdom that is the nature of accordance burns the two obscurations and abides closely. With what? With the ten complete trainings like the above. The way to become a complete training is like the previous one. The fifth has two parts, the first is: familiarity and so on, there are two verses. Because the great bodhisattva abides on the fifth ground, these ten dharmas should be completely abandoned. What are the ten?

Thus viewing, from "one should completely abandon householders, renunciants, and those who rely on them," up to "one should completely abandon pride, arrogance, perversions, doubt, desire, hatred, and delusion, and completely relinquish laziness." The second part is divided into two points: first, the nature of purification—abandoning the antidote; second, the nature of attainment—the method of purification. The first point is: Familiarity refers to associating, being close, and befriending renunciants and householders, etc., for the sake of respect, with the aim of gaining things. Abandoning these means continuously walking in the Buddha-field, being born miraculously, shaving the head, wearing the saffron robe, and not even living together with nuns and monks who strike the instruments, not being attached, and not obtaining clothes from them. Attachment to home refers to being jealous of others' wealth and not showing kindness to householders who have faith in renunciation. The antidote is: If I must bring happiness to sentient beings, how can I be stingy with the happiness that sentient beings obtain through their own merit? Places that have become noisy are divided into two types: external, which refers to villages where many people live, and cities, etc.; internal, which refers to places where one hears the speech of Hearers and Solitary Realizers and where thoughts arise. The antidote is to abandon both of these with body and mind. Although the sutra only speaks of the external, bodhisattvas must be separated from both, which is not contradictory, because the sutra's statement is in terms of the main aspect. Self-praise and disparaging others refers to praising oneself and slandering others through praising virtues and criticizing faults. The antidote is not to cling to the internal and external dharmas that are the basis for establishing self and others. The ten paths of non-virtuous actions: Because they give rise to undesirable results, they are non-virtuous. The seven of body and speech are actions, are the nature of thought, and are also paths; the three of mind, although not the nature of thought, are the basis for it to enter, so they are the ten paths of non-virtuous actions. The antidote is: If these even obstruct the path to good rebirth, what need is there to mention the noble path? Therefore, one must recognize the faults of these ten paths. Being arrogant with pride is: Being arrogant with hearing, etc., and discipline, etc., and not respecting other virtuous ones. The antidote is: If one does not cling to any dharma, then what virtue can
