One side is expectation, and in the Sutra of the Mother, it is for the sake of proclaiming the path of all three lineages. The single nature, due to the power of conditions, appears as many to those to be tamed, which is shown by the word "way." Although it appears as many, accomplishing it as one is the third way, and possessing the power to show one as many is the nature of the all-knowing one himself, the nature of the three. Whose is such power? When thinking about this question, mentioning "Prajnaparamita" is the order of meaning, and it is explained in detail. The so-called "way" refers to holding that the meaning is not real, but only the appearance is shown. This is using the word "way" as the basis of confusion, and this needs to be discussed: Is this Mother Sutra the mother of the three sons from the perspective of those to be tamed, or is it only the mother of the Buddha from a definite perspective? This should be examined from the perspective of conventional truth and ultimate truth, or nominal and characteristic. First, this is not desired and is not reasonable, because in ultimate truth, the Mother produces the Buddha, which would be hindered by the previous reasoning. According to the second statement, the Mother producing the three sons is her own nature, therefore, the Mother cannot produce the three sons. This reasoning is accepted without seeing any hindrance, which is a statement. The Hearers and Solitary Realizers will also have no path to liberation, because there is nothing other than the Mother, and the Mother is not the path for these people. This cannot be accepted, and the two arguments are the quoted praises as the source of knowledge, and the two fundamental tenets that are acknowledged. If the Basis Wisdom and Path Wisdom are only considered to be the mother of the Buddha, then the two individuals who are shown as Hearers and Bodhisattvas will also become nominal. Therefore, this kind of statement that gathers many contradictions is a reproach to both Maitreya and the Teacher, and those who follow this statement have not examined it well. Therefore, in accordance with "the meaning of the way that is based on confusion is also in accordance with the intention of the separate establishment of the three ways," or it is explained like "the way of dividing wisdom into three." If the Teacher also thinks that the paths of the scriptures are all nominal Prajnaparamita, then there is no inconsistency, because Prajnaparamita and the Mother have the same meaning, then this is very unreasonable, the meaning of the Mother is only to accomplish the uncommon intention of the four sons.

So, how do the masters view the fact that the Śrāvakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas do not have the (Prajñāpāramitā) Mother? Furthermore, because they do not have the Prajñāpāramitā Mother as a characteristic, the name of "son" would also be interrupted. Dividing wisdom into three, saying that it is not dividing the nature into different ones, although it seems like many, the essence is only one. This negates the view of the "Clear Words" (Prasannapadā), which holds that Bodhisattvas have the Prajñāpāramitā Mother as a characteristic, while Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas do not. This is because they consider (Prajñāpāramitā) to be the same as the characteristic of omniscience and only the mother of the Buddhas. Enough with the elaboration. Second, if it is said that it is for entering through meaning, then how does one enter? One does so with reverence. To whom? To the person who desires to attain the qualities of the Prajñāpāramitā, whether they are of sharp or dull faculties. To what? To the Prajñāpāramitā and the scriptures that rely on it, such as the Samādhirāja Sūtra. Although it is explained in this way, it is not appropriate because it is the basis of the meaning of the words, so it can be reversed. Therefore, the three wisdoms refer to the scriptures that are the subject matter, that is, the Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra, and the treatises that rely on that Sūtra. For what purpose? For the purpose of holding in every way, and practicing through holding, reciting, understanding, and yoga. From what cause does it arise? It arises from great joy in the Prajñāpāramitā. Moreover, it is not only from hearing that joy arises, but from joy arises reverence. The essence is: very, that is, intense reverence. Because one has faith in something, the desire to seek its meaning arises, so it is said that faith is the basis of desire, so although reverence appears here, it is the desire to seek the meaning of the Prajñāpāramitā. Third, after seeking the meaning in this way, the wisdom that arises from hearing, and through thinking and meditation, gradually generate the three wisdoms, and then one can enter. Regarding these three wisdoms, the Vaibhāṣikas say: "The minds arising from hearing, etc., have names and both meanings as objects." That is, focusing on the name alone is the wisdom arising from hearing, focusing on the meaning alone is the wisdom arising from meditation, and focusing on both is the wisdom arising from thinking. This view is unreasonable because the wisdom arising from thinking cannot simultaneously grasp both the name and the meaning. If so, the wisdom arising from thinking would not exist, because when the name is the object, it becomes the wisdom arising from hearing, and when grasping the meaning, it becomes the wisdom arising from meditation. Therefore, here the wisdom arising from hearing the scriptures is the wisdom arising from hearing.
