It is said, "Three three," thus, by meditating on the four dhyanas in small, medium, and large degrees, three births from the Brahma realm up to the Great Fruit realm are accomplished. Thus it is said. Therefore, both the container world of the form realm and the essence of the ripening rain are meditations of birth, because they are the self-fruit and ripening of the meditation of equipoise. The fruit of meditating on the formless is also from the same (text): In the formless realms, because there is no other place, there is no different birth. Therefore, by meditating in small, medium, and large degrees, birth manifests as high, low, inferior, and good. As it says. Because there is nothing in the formless, there is no place divided by above and below, but for those four, there is high and low birth by the length of life, and good and bad by the amount of affliction. So, what is the meaning of meditating in small, medium, and large degrees? If both respectful practice and continuous practice are absent, it is small; if either one is present, it is medium; if both are present, it is large. Thus it is explained. Third, from the Shravaka Bhumi: When entering into equipoise in those meditations, a sign appears as if the body is sinking below the ground. When entering into equipoise in those formless meditations, a sign appears as if the body is flying into the sky. Thus it is said. Fourth, from the Abhidharmakosha: Dhyana, formless, own ground, and dependent on the lower ground, the lower ground is not needed. Thus generally speaking. The noble one at the peak of existence has nothing, having directly realized, the defilements are exhausted. Thus it is specifically said. Thus, these dhyanas and formless realms are the basis of all paths, therefore they are crucial for treatises that show the order of realization, and seeing that most commentators are unable to explain them as they are, I will briefly explain a little. The second has four: cause, essence, division, and explanation of terms. First, from the Ornament: Happiness and suffering and their cause, the compassion of the Bodhisattva. Cause and spiritual friend, nature, the compassion of the Bodhisattva. Thus it is said. Among these, the first half refers to the feeling of happiness and suffering, and the feeling of equanimity that leads to the two, that is, by focusing on the three feelings, the reason for generating compassion is the aspect of wanting to be separated from the three sufferings.

Ra. This explains the object and conditions of compassion. The latter half explains the remaining three conditions. Among them, the cause is the causal condition, which is the undefiled seed on the Alaya consciousness. The spiritual friend is the dominant condition, which is the one who proclaims the immeasurable. Nature is the immediately preceding condition, which is the previous consciousness. These remaining three conditions can be combined with the four, and the first condition will be explained in the section on essence. Second, it is divided into common and individual. The first, as stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: "The Brahma-viharas abandon discordant conduct, Possess non-discriminating wisdom, Enter into the three objects, Benefit and mature all sentient beings." This shows that it has four characteristics. The characteristic of abandoning discordant aspects is to abandon harmful thoughts, harm, displeasure, and harmful desire in sequence. The characteristic of the antidote is to obtain the antidote to those to be abandoned. The characteristic of the object is to focus on sentient beings, Dharma, and the absence of an object. The characteristic of the function is to mature sentient beings. The second, in the Compendium of Topics, it says: "What is loving-kindness? It is the thought, based on meditation, that sentient beings may be united with happiness, and the samadhi and wisdom that correspond to it, and the thoughts and mental factors that correspond to these. What is compassion? It is the thought, based on meditation, that sentient beings may be separated from suffering, as mentioned before. What is joy? It is the thought, based on meditation, that sentient beings may not be separated from happiness, as mentioned before. What is equanimity? It is the thought, based on meditation, that sentient beings may benefit, and that which corresponds to it, as mentioned before." Like this. These also explain the place, object, aspect, essence, and companions. First, it is any of the pure ones who are the essence of the four meditations. Second, it is all sentient beings, but if we differentiate slightly, it is sentient beings who do not have happiness, have suffering, have happiness, and have attachment and aversion, which are the causes of distinguishing between near and far. Third, it is wanting to meet, etc. Fourth, it is samadhi and wisdom. Fifth, it is mind and mental factors.
