Here, the mind of renunciation, non-anger, delight in virtue, and one-pointedness of mind, are endowed with four qualities of excellent discernment. Among these, the opposing factors are specific to each situation, and the fulfillment of desires is achieved sequentially by restraining harm to others through body and speech, enduring harm done by others, assisting in whatever actions beings undertake, manifesting in accordance with the wishes of beings after having manifested, and fulfilling all desires by dispelling the doubts of beings. As it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: 'Generosity diminishes opposing factors, endowed with non-discriminating wisdom, it fulfills all desires, and performs the three aspects of ripening beings.' Likewise, the remainder should also be transformed and declared. Each of these is further divided into three, thus transforming into eighteen: the first is fearlessness towards defiled dharmas. The second is the virtuous dharma that accomplishes the benefit of beings, gathering and guarding the dharma. The third is not minding harm, accepting suffering, and having definite faith in the dharma. The fourth is donning armor, acting for the benefit of beings. The fifth is dwelling in happiness in this life, manifestly accomplishing qualities, and acting for the benefit of beings. The sixth is conventional and ultimate, focusing on beings. The second is that six are needed to generate the three trainings in the continuum. If one does not look to enjoyment, one takes vows, and if one is scolded for that, one does not scold back, etc., protecting with patience, therefore accomplishing vows is the first three. The last two gather the two trainings of mind and wisdom. Diligence is the companion of all, therefore it belongs to all three. In the Ornament it says: 'After the Victorious Ones made the three trainings their own, they truly explained the six perfections, the first three, the last two are two kinds, one also belongs to all three.' The third is, in the Ornament it says: 'Relying on the former, the latter arises, because of dwelling in inferiority and superiority, and because of grossness and subtlety, these are explained in order.' Among these, the order of arising is that if one does not look to enjoyment, one takes vows. If one possesses vows, one is patient. If one possesses patience, one exerts diligence. If one exerts diligence, then concentration.
