Because it is the cause of all the Dharma of growth and Buddhahood. Thus, merely generating qualities by focusing on that is established as lineage. In this way, it transforms into lineage through the two doors of the object-condition and the cause-condition. Thirdly, as stated in the Sutra of Ten Dharmas: "Just as one knows fire from smoke, and water from water birds, so the lineage of a wise Bodhisattva is known from signs." In accordance with this, the Entering the Middle Way states: "Even in the time of ordinary beings, having heard of emptiness, inner joy arises again and again. From joy, the eyes are moistened with tears, and the hairs of the body also stand on end. That one has the seed of the Tathagata's mind." It speaks of the cause of those bodily signs. Also, the Jewel Heap Sutra states: "Whatever has not even a little activity is unconditioned, and whatever is unconditioned is the lineage of the noble ones, and that lineage is no different from being equal to space. That lineage is the suchness of Dharma at all times, and is permanent because it has become one taste of Dharma." Also, in the Extensive Sutra, it is said: "O son of the Victorious One, the lineage of the Bodhisattva is known as embracing the realm of Dharma, being as vast as the sky, and naturally luminous. A Bodhisattva who abides in this way is born into the lineage of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who have passed away. He is born into the lineage of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who are yet to come. He is born into the lineage of the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, who are now present." In accordance with this, in this Ornament, the realm of Dharma is spoken of as lineage. In the Sunlight, the idea of differentiating the six sense bases into two lineages is refuted, and it is spoken of as the Dharma-nature, the self-existing lineage. As it says: "Those who must speak of the meaning of speaking of the self-existing lineage as self-existing. If it is a synonym for cause, then that which is truly taken by condition is also that, so what difference is there in meaning? If it is a synonym for Dharma-nature, then there is no fault in this. Or else, the lineage of those is imputed, while this is characterized, so that and this do not agree." Thus, the noble ones accept the meaning of self-existing as Dharma-nature.
