It is said that the thought that there are beings and sentient beings established by imputation is clinging to the person as an object. If the conceptual thought that is the object-possessor clings to the person, then these conceptual thoughts are not obstacles to the enlightenment of hearers and self-realizers, so it is unreasonable to say that they are not abandoned by the path, because they are afflictive obscurations. In response to this, some say: If one thinks of the nature of the self of the person, it is an afflictive obscuration, but since it thinks that the self of substance and imputation takes and abandons for complete purification, it is a cognitive obscuration because it thinks in relation to other dharmas. This is very unreasonable. If so, then holding the powerful one as the cause of beings would also be a fault of not being an afflictive obscuration. If you accept this, then it will also become an object to be abandoned that is not common to the path of the bodhisattva. If it is uncertain, then the former is also a cognitive obscuration that holds in relation to other dharmas, so the assertion that it is not an object to be abandoned by hearers and self-realizers is flawed. Because it will become an object to be abandoned that is not common to bodhisattvas, Kumarashri said that the existence of a person as a substance is holding onto the self of the substance of the person. The existence of a person as an imputation is holding onto the self of the dharma, and it is also unreasonable to explain the difference between the two. Therefore, if one clings to the person of substance and imputation as the holder of the object, then no one can prevent it from becoming an object to be abandoned that is not common. Although it is said to cling to a person or sentient being, they are not real, but only take the aggregates, elements, and sense bases as the basis for superimposing them. That is, although one does not cling to a permanent, single, independent person as the holder of the object, the thought arises of superimposing the dharma that is merely devoid of that self as the holder. For that dharma, there will also be two situations: one is to take it as a real thing that is established in reality and cling to it as such; the other is to take it as merely a designation that is not established in reality and think of it as such. The third part has two points: establishing one's own system and showing that other systems are unreasonable. The first point is: If you ask how conceptual thoughts cling to these objects, it is that, focusing on the object of purification, one thinks in turn, "This is an object to be abandoned in one extreme," and thus arises a non-conforming thought; and one thinks, "This is an object to be taken in one extreme," and thus arises a conforming thought, and this is the way of clinging of the object-grasping conceptual thought. Because this is the path of the Lesser Vehicle, one must turn away from it; because this is the path of the Great Vehicle, one must

The clinging that thinks one should enter is the way of clinging to the apprehended concept of the peak. That which is imputed to a person, established as a basis of substance, and the basis imputed there is merely imputed, thinking that these are the apprehenders or enjoyers of objects, is the way of clinging to the apprehending concept. Thus, here, the terms "sentient being" and "person" are not thought of as merely the person of the two, dharma and person, but are merely symbols of the apprehenders of objects. In the Ornament's Appearance, at the peak, the four conceptualizations to be abandoned by meditation are also included, namely, the apprehended concept of entering and reversing, the concept of substance-grasping, and the concept of imputation-grasping, which are explained as being similar to those to be abandoned by seeing. Among them, the self-grasping that exists as a substance, and the self-grasping that exists as an imputation, are explained from the perspective of the dharma-self. In the Sun's Appearance, there is no clear indication of the naming of the four conceptualizations to be abandoned by meditation at the peak junction. In the context of the Gathering of Relatives, there are the appearance of mere things, the appearance of antidotes, the imputation to all noble beings, and the reliance on the reasons for that imputation. Except for the first two of the four to be abandoned by seeing, which do not mention the appearance, the rest are the same as before. The latter two are related to the person existing as a substance and the person existing as an imputation. The connection of the former four, considering the four to be abandoned by meditation at the peak junction to be the intention of the noble ones, is unreasonable. If that were the case, the connection of the to-be-abandoned-by-seeing would also have to be connected to the to-be-abandoned-by-seeing at the peak junction. That is also unreasonable, because the Sun's Appearance also imputes it as relying on entering and reversing. If the grasping concepts grasp onto dharmas, then ordinary beings also have the knowledge that all dharmas are without self, so their grasping is not pervaded by substance-grasping. And, the noble one also said, "After the night had passed, in the morning I heard the sound of a jackal," so the noble one's grasping should not be pervaded by imputation-grasping. In response to this, the ordinary being's realization of selflessness is belief-mindedness, and imputation-grasping is here considered to be reality-mindedness. And, the noble one's saying "I" is merely language or expression because there is self-grasping, and self-grasping is said to be substance-grasping, and the Ornament's Appearance also says so, so one should know.
