Eh! Suffering and origin, cessation and path. Among these, in terms of the order of arising, origin and path arise first, while suffering and cessation arise later. However, in terms of the order of realization by valid cognition (pramāṇa), suffering is realized first, and the path to be cultivated is realized last. Regarding this, first, by contemplating the self-characteristics and general characteristics of suffering, one realizes that it is something to be abandoned. As it is said: contemplate the cause of suffering and its impermanence, etc., its nature. Suffering itself cannot revert, and it must be reversed by the power of reverting its cause. Having recognized this, if one investigates "What is the cause of this suffering?", then one will understand that karma and afflictions are the origin. Furthermore, when investigating whether they can be eliminated or not, because one needs to understand the nature of the cause, one will also determine its incompatible aspect. As it is said: Through determining selflessness, one recognizes that one can abandon the cause—the origin, and in this way, it is not eternal, because there is a possibility of obstacles, etc., to the cause. Thus, the result—the cessation of suffering—is proclaimed, and it is recognized that cessation can be realized. From the time of initially understanding the characteristics of suffering, one has already comprehended the four: impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. Therefore, if one thinks that it is unreasonable to show the origin as something to be abandoned in the second stage because one recognizes that one can eliminate self-grasping, then there is no fault. Because in the second stage, one first recognizes that one must abandon the origin and that one can abandon the origin, and then thinks, "Now, one must abandon the origin without hesitation, because it is necessary and feasible," thus, one makes a vow in the second stage. When one initially recognizes that suffering can be abandoned, since the realization that one must achieve separation from suffering arises immediately, if one thinks that it is reasonable to show cessation in the second stage, then, although one recognizes that one must achieve cessation, the realization that one can achieve cessation through valid cognition necessarily depends on the third stage. Achieving cessation also depends on practicing the path, therefore, one must practice the path afterward. Among these, the path includes eight limbs, and these are definitely summarized into three trainings, namely, right view, right thought, right effort, and right mindfulness are the training of wisdom; right concentration is the training of mind; and right speech, right action, and right livelihood are definitely the training of ethics. The root of existence

The cutter is the wisdom that realizes selflessness. And that necessarily depends on the single-pointed calm abiding of the mind. Because it is said in the scriptures that one cannot truly realize reality as it is merely through hearing and thinking. When meditating on selflessness by relying on a special calm abiding, when the conviction of selflessness first arises in the object of selflessness like a nail, it is called the wisdom born of meditation and the heat of the path of joining, which is encompassed by the wisdom of realizing selflessness, that is, insight. At the time of merely hearing and thinking, conviction and the object appear separately as if they were separated. That special calm abiding also depends on the training of higher discipline. Therefore, the teacher established the two doors of precepts, stopping and acting, and never transgresses them with unscattered mindfulness, and even if there is dullness or laxity, he recognizes it with vigilance and corrects it. In this way, powerful mindfulness and vigilance can be generated. Just by using the two as antidotes to sinking and agitation, a special calm abiding can be generated. The eightfold noble path is like a wheel. Accomplishing with wisdom is like the spokes because it can cut off. Samadhi is the mind holding on to the object, so it is in accordance with the nature of the rim. Discipline is like the center of the wheel (the hub). The reason why the three trainings of the path arise in this way is that the afflictions to be abandoned have two types: manifest and seeds. The first is further divided into two types: those that can actually cause misdeeds and those that cannot cause misdeeds. These are abandoned by the three trainings respectively. Third, the way in which the three types of individuals practice the stages of the path by practicing this single cycle of practice is: suffering, there are two types: connecting to the lower realms and connecting to the higher realms. The cause of this, accumulation, also has two types: generating the lower realms and generating the higher realms. Therefore, cessation and path also have two types. In this way, if one practices without deception the two causes and effects of the lower realms, as well as the method of abandoning them, and the four truths of cessation that extinguish them, the stages of the path of the lesser person will arise. If one practices those of the higher realms without deception, the stages of the path of the middling person will arise. If one practices the Dharma, the foundation of the path of the great person will arise. The second point is
