Because it is newly accomplished through causes and conditions, it is said to be a valid cognition so that those who have not previously attained that state may also attain it. What is the reason for that? It is the perfection of intention, wishing to benefit all sentient beings, and the perfection of action, the wisdom that realizes selflessness. Among these, first, the Teacher could not bear that all sentient beings possess suffering and are separated from happiness, so he vowed to liberate all sentient beings, but that cannot be accomplished by such a beginner's state, so he must accomplish the state that can accomplish that. And that also does not arise without a cause, so he sees that it depends on the wisdom that realizes selflessness. The non-abiding nirvana to be attained also depends on the intention to benefit by eliminating the extreme of peace in the stage of the path, and on eliminating the extreme of existence, and on familiarizing oneself with the wisdom that realizes selflessness. Here, only the selflessness of the person is pointed out, and the selflessness of phenomena is not pointed out, because of the reason that will be explained in the third chapter. For the sake of seeking liberation, it is sufficient to have only the Teacher who knows all the entering and returning of samsara, so it is said in this regard. Then, is great compassion also not pointed out? There is no fault, because without it, even the Teacher who is closely needed for merely seeking liberation will not arise. Therefore, the obscuration of knowledge taught here should also be understood as the non-afflictive confusion that is ignorant of the reality of the four noble truths. In what way does the capable one become a valid cognition? By stating the sign, identifying the opponent, and in what meaning is it not deceiving? The first is, the capable Buddha Bhagavan Dharma, for those who seek liberation, is a valid person, because for those who seek liberation, he is a person who possesses both non-deception and the meaning of not understanding. The second is, it is of other schools, not of our own school, because it has already been established for them. That also cannot be established by quoting scriptures, so it must be established by the drop of the power of things. The third is, in what way is it not deceiving? It is the nirvana desired by those who seek liberation together with the means, and the suffering to be abandoned together with the cause, for this, refuting that other teachers are valid, and

To establish that the sole Buddha is not deceptive, and through establishing the method of the single practice, to explain how to guide the stages of the path of the three types of individuals. Firstly, for the outsiders, the distinctions of contradictions are limitless, but there are mainly two: relying on afflictions and relying on purification. The first case is that, apart from the Materialists and the Samkhya, other outsiders also accept liberation, and they believe that the continuum of arising in samsara ceases. However, they believe that the root cause of all of these, such as the chief and Ishvara, etc., are permanent, which is contradictory, because permanent things do not change. As it is said, "The very ability is difficult to understand." If the cause is permanent, even if one wants the result to change, it is not possible, because the cause does not change. There is also no valid cognition that determines cause and effect, because initially both fire and smoke may be observed, or may not be observed. Afterwards, fire is observed, then smoke is observed, then fire is not observed, then smoke is not observed. Therefore, for permanent things, newly arising states cannot suddenly change, because even if the object of manifestation, time, and nature of permanent things are negated, things sometimes change. The contradiction of relying on purification is that wanting to attain a state free from suffering, and proving the existence of self through reasoning, these two are contradictory, because clinging to self is the root of all suffering. As it is said, "Whoever sees self." etc. If there is a concept of clinging to self, then naturally craving for self arises. From this arises craving for one's own happiness. And, seeing that the attainment of one's own happiness cannot rely on anything else, one craves the means of achieving one's own happiness, such as power, etc. From this, in order to achieve these, actions of body, speech, and mind are manifested. These actions cause rebirth in good and bad realms. Therefore, "Having strong attachment to self, as long as that attachment exists, one will wander in samsara." Next, to establish that the sole teacher is not deceptive, just as a person tormented by thirst seeks water, through contemplating the faults of samsara, seeing those tormented by the suffering of samsara, the desire to attain the cessation of suffering arises. For such a person seeking liberation, the teacher taught the Four Noble Truths.
