If both you and I acknowledge and accept that the Hinayana scriptures are the Buddha's words, then, for the newly born and other ordinary people, you did not initially accept these scriptures as the Buddha's words. Later, by what cause or reason did you come to believe that these scriptures are the Buddha's words? This reason is the same for the Mahayana as well. Because the Mahayana also has the practice of the Vinaya, Sutra, and Abhidharma, and also has the great teachings and the black teachings. If it is not acceptable to acknowledge something merely because two people agree, and if two other schools believe that the Hinayana is pure and therefore consider it to be the true Buddha's words, then the Rigveda and other scriptures also have two schools that believe they do not deceive, so these scriptures would also become true. The Hinayana that we accept is also accepted by you, so there is no dispute. But the Mahayana is not accepted by us, so there is dispute, and it is flawed. If you say this, then the Hinayana scriptures should also be abandoned, because they have disputes with the non-Buddhists. Moreover, although the Hinayana scriptures are all accepted as reliable by the eighteen schools, some schools believe that there is an intermediate state, while some schools accept it and some do not. Therefore, there are also disputes between self and others within the schools, so they should be abandoned. Second, refuting with reasoning, i.e., "the root of the teachings," etc. The Arhats, having personally heard from the Buddha, compiled the scriptures that teach emptiness, thus it becomes a slander against the root of the teachings—the Bhikshu Arhats. Moreover, among the nominal Bhikshus, etc., the root of the teachings—the superior Bhikshu, the true Bhikshu is the Arhat. To attain Arhatship, one must abandon afflictions. To abandon afflictions, one must realize emptiness. But, you deny emptiness, therefore the Bhikshu Arhat himself is difficult to attain, that is, it is impossible to attain. The word "also" indicates that not only is it impossible to become a Buddha. The reason for this is that the mind is object-oriented, that is, it has inherent existence. As long as there is inherent existence, Nirvana is difficult to attain, that is, it is impossible to attain. In "abandoning afflictions," etc., afflictions are considered in terms of their nature. Just like ignorance, desire can be divided into two types: afflictive and non-afflictive. This is the former explanation.

These are easy to understand as unreasonable. If the latter is also the case, then dividing pride, hatred, and doubt, etc., into two categories would be too excessive, so it is unreasonable. Therefore, the self-view is that if outsiders can also temporarily abandon any inferior manifest afflictions through the worldly path with peaceful and fierce aspects, then there exists the valid cognition of realizing the sixteen or two aspects of truth mentioned earlier. If so, then there exists the direct perception of yoga that arises with clarity from the meaning of practice, from the signs such as not being separated from the limbs of that practice. Even accepting that it cannot be practiced is unreasonable. What need is there to say that practicing it can abandon manifest afflictions? Even so, denying that liberation is attained by abandoning all afflictions is because of abandoning afflictions, etc. If liberation is attained by abandoning manifest afflictions through realizing the absence of a self-independent, then the moment of abandoning manifest afflictions will become liberation. Because he has already accepted the cessation of afflictions. This cannot be allowed. Because even if there are no manifest afflictions, the ability to project the next existence through actions with outflows can be seen from scripture and reasoning. There is no fault. Even if there is action, because there is no immediate cause like moisture, there will be no rebirth in the next existence. If so, then is it certain to be liberation? Because the craving that abandons manifest afflictions by realizing the selflessness of a permanent, single, and independent self, since there is no self-grasping affliction of an independent self, although the craving it leads to is not an affliction, just as there is ignorance that grasps self-existence, how can the craving it leads to not be an affliction? It exists. Because those reasons have feeling, and craving arises due to the condition of feeling with an object. Moreover, if there is an object, that is, if there is true grasping in the continuum, then one will grasp and cling to some of the phenomena of the ground, path, and result as true. If so, then attachment, aversion, and ignorance will arise towards the three: the agreeable, the disagreeable, and the neutral. As it says in the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life": "Those who are connected with minds with objects." and so on. And "When dwelling in the intermediate state." should be understood extensively as in the root and commentary of the "Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning." If there is no realization of emptiness, as it says in the "Confession" and "Praise": Thinking
