If one were to say that one is establishing the property-of-the-subject and pervasion of this "existent," it would become self-contradictory. Even if it is a sign that possesses the three modes, one would have to say that it is not a valid sign. Furthermore, there is no way to formulate an argument that is neither a consequence nor a sign-argument, and for a sign-argument, there is no way to formulate an argument that is neither a valid sign nor a pseudo-sign. Such a claim by someone who formulates arguments, that they can do this, is not found among any logicians, internal or external, in non-Tibetan regions of India. To establish that valid cognition is definitively two, perception and inference, if one posits that the object to be cognized is definitively two, self-character and general-character, then when explaining by which valid cognition its property-of-the-subject is established, most of the former ones say that the meaning is accomplished by self-awareness perception, which implicitly understands things like the appearance of clarity and the appearance of non-clarity of an object in the mind. Even so, they say that signs such as the determination of the ability or inability to perform a function are merely establishing a name. It should be examined: if the meaning definitively two, self-character and general-character, is established by such a self-awareness perception, then those self-awarenesses must sever the imputation of a third meaning that is not self-character and general-character. If one also asserts that, then the self-awareness of the experience of a mind that appears clearly does not measure, either directly or indirectly, the appearance of a mind that appears unclearly, nor does it sever any imputation other than that, either directly or indirectly. And if the other is also like that, then how does it sever the imputation of a third thing that is not two? If you say that these two types rely on each other and sever it through the action of both, then the self-awareness, through the action of both, implicitly establishes that there are two ways of appearing, the appearance of clarity and the appearance of non-clarity,

Even if he himself does not use the term "inference" for the newly arising mind of realization, it is still inference प्रमाण (pramāṇa, measure). Similarly, experiential self-awareness direct perception प्रमाण (pramāṇa, measure) must also forcefully cut off the assertion that " प्रमाण (pramāṇa, measure) is only direct perception." Therefore, all conceptual errors regarding the number and object of प्रमाण (pramāṇa, measure) will be refuted by self-awareness direct perception. If examined carefully, this also applies to other cases. Therefore, the definition of direct perception is the erroneous belief that the result, i.e., the conceptual errors of the four inverted perceptions to be eliminated by the chapter on direct perception, have already been refuted by self-awareness direct perception. If the premise is correct, then it must be said that it only proves the name, which becomes an inevitable conclusion. If the non-Buddhists do not have inference प्रमाण (pramāṇa, measure), then there will be no experience of pleasure or pain in the continuum of the Samkhyas and Vaisheshikas. To say so is foolish talk! These two self-awarenesses have implicitly established the existence of two appearances. Since no object appearance that is neither of these two appearances nor anything else has ever been observed, it can be determined that there is no non-dual third aggregate. If someone says, then, from the sign of not observing the non-dual third aggregate, it is clearly stated that it does not exist, but how can self-awareness prove that the non-dual third aggregate does not exist? Before self-awareness has refuted the clinging to the existence of the non-dual third aggregate, how can self-awareness have the opportunity to determine the number as two? Therefore, it is only a rabbit's horn. Although the word "only" is not explicitly used here, it is implicit in it. The word "only" is also mentioned in the Pramāṇavārttika, but it is not mentioned in the root verses of the Abhidharmasamuccaya, but it is mentioned in the auto-commentary. In the commentary, the author explicitly emphasized this point, saying, "These two are only." Language itself has the ability to completely exclude other things, so even without the word "only," it can express this meaning. Therefore, this statement proves that there are only two प्रमाण (pramāṇa, measure). When someone doubts what these two are, the answer should be: direct perception and inference. As stated in etc. If we summarize the meaning of these words, then the meaning of the root verses of the Abhidharmasamuccaya can be understood as follows: प्रमाण (pramāṇa, measure) are only two, that is,
