Now, even if one is seized by those causes of error, the eye consciousness of that person does not need to be defiled by those causes of error, because there is no fault of manifestly falling into error. The stream of consciousness is under the control of the mind consciousness. The reason why other similar phenomena are needed as causes of constant error is as follows: The destruction of the last moment, such as when a lamp goes out, which is not related to the subsequent arising of its own kind, is something that even a child can completely ascertain simply by seeing the next lamp with their own eyes, because it does not depend on signs. Among the four seals of the Dharma, the reason why it is necessary to establish the reasoning of conditioned phenomena as momentary more extensively in this treatise than in any other treatise is that, in order to realize that all contaminated phenomena are suffering, it is necessary to understand this first. When this is understood first, then one can realize that the contaminated aggregates of appropriation are suffering. Based on the function of these two, one can excellently realize that the aggregates are selfless and that Nirvana is peaceful. Therefore, it is a precious gateway to lead to the pure certainty of the four seals of views, which are drawn from the perspective of valid cognition. If that is not established, then it is like that; because it is completely established, it is inference. If something is grasped by direct perception but is still uncertain, how can it be established by signs? To show that example, just as the ability of a seed to produce a sprout and the seed being born as the nature of a substance are grasped by direct perception of the eye consciousness, but the next moment of the seed does not immediately produce a sprout. Because the fruit sprout arises from that seed, there is no uninterrupted seeing of the seed. Because of being overwhelmed by the ignorance caused by such causes of error, one cannot clearly see the ability of the seed to produce a sprout in a way that can lead to certainty. In order to dispel that ignorance, the subsequent inference that establishes the seed as having the ability to produce a sprout is stated. If it were not so, then there would be no obstacle to certainty like what is grasped, and those with great wisdom could ascertain everything merely through seeing, so there would be no need for inference.

What should be done? Oh, it is like this. As it is said, "That is also established from the basis" and "Not abandoning destruction, completely cutting off," determining impermanence with the power of direct perception is coarse impermanence. Then, can subtle impermanence be determined by the power of being grasped by direct perception? For those who only see the surface, there is no such situation. Only with great wisdom, directly realizing the form of truth, directly seeing the real object, can one lead to certainty with the power of completely cutting off all its subtle momentary forms. Because in yogic direct perception, it is impossible to appear without being certain. Or, can the ability that has become the nature of things be determined as seen by direct perception without relying on inference? It should be added, "with great wisdom." Some people, because of relying on signs, give rise to the inference of knowing the impermanence of color. When they directly see other similar colors appearing continuously, they will have the certainty that "this color is impermanent." But this is not guided by the power of direct perception knowing the impermanence of color, but because directly seeing the color triggers the memory of previously knowing the impermanence of color, so determining impermanence is the result of the previous action of inference. At that time, although there are two external disturbing factors, the internal disturbing factor, that is, the power of the action of inference, is incomplete, so at that time, the wisdom of determining impermanence will also arise. Although such attachment may arise from habitual mental speculation, this is only seemingly certain, not real certainty. In the two verses, "Among all," etc., Lhazun (Lha-bzun) puts the first verse in front. There is no other connection method other than "therefore." The later verse also does not have the disturbing factor of other similar things appearing, and when favorable conditions such as clear habits exist, direct perception can also generate certain wisdom that is consistent with what one sees. Therefore, these two need to be compared with what was said earlier. However, both the ornament and its followers think that both
