Therefore, since the nature of one does not enter into the nature of the other, it is not contradictory, because the basis of their natures is not established. The commentator does not consider the nature to be the reversal of meaning, but it is clear from explicitly stating that the nature is what its own essence is. Therefore, when the meaning of one enters, it pervades the exclusion of the meaning of the other. If, for this, it is established as incompatible merely because the meaning of one enters and the meaning of the other does not enter, then it becomes established as incompatible merely because it is impossible to have different entities with the same basis. If that is the case, taking heat and cold as examples, then it should become that neither of them is contradictory, because merely because it is impossible to have different entities with the same basis, it is neither contradictory in the sense of not coexisting simultaneously, nor contradictory in the sense of mutually exclusive. Therefore, presenting such a fault is like a fault of clinging to words, so how can such words be presented before the wise who distinguish with scripture and reason? Even so, we do not say the word "merely" beforehand, so there is no basis for such a fault. Then how should it be said? It should be said that if one has the meaning of one, then it exists merely as contradictory in the manner of excluding the meaning of the other. This "merely" is to cut off the contradiction in the manner of constant and discontinuous. Secondly, there are two types of divisions: mutually exclusive direct contradictions and mutually exclusive indirect contradictions. The nature of the first is: existing incompatibly in the manner of mutual determination and complete exclusion. For example, permanence and impermanence, etc. Its meaning is that if one completely determines in the mind that a certain dharma is permanent, then one determines in that mind that that dharma is not impermanent; if one completely determines in the mind that a certain dharma is impermanent, then by its power, one determines in that mind that it is permanent, in this way, they exist mutually as determination and exclusion of one another. Some people think that contradiction in the manner of determination and complete exclusion is the meaning of mutually exclusive direct contradiction, but not contradiction in the manner of complete exclusion and determination, which pervades mutually exclusive direct contradiction, because when it is determined that the color of a sprout is blue, although yellow, which is not blue, is excluded, it is not blue and not blue.

It is said that because yellow, which is mutually exclusive, is not a real contradiction. This is because the meaning of pervasive exclusion is not applied to both sides of the contradiction, but to one side, thereby abandoning the meaning of both sides, which is wrong. In this way, for your own admission that the incompatible existence of determination and pervasive exclusion is a real contradiction that is mutually exclusive, it can also be said in this way: that which is not the blue of the substance of the sprout and blue are real contradictions that are mutually exclusive, because the color of the sprout, by determining that it is not the blue of the substance of the sprout, can pervasively exclude that it is blue. The pervasion with limitations has been admitted. If it is not established, then because the color of the sprout, by the power of determining that it is not the blue of the substance of the sprout, can pervasively exclude that it is the blue of the substance of the sprout. We, as just said, for the admission that does not abandon the meaning of both sides but applies to both sides, the contradiction of mutual determination and pervasive exclusion and the contradiction of mutual pervasive exclusion and determination, there is no difference in whether or not it is a necessary contradiction that is mutually exclusive. Although what has been done and what has not been done are in a state of decisional opposition, merely determining what has not been done does not necessarily mean non-affirmation, and what has not been done and determination are not necessarily the same. The subject, what has been done, becomes the decisional opposition of what has not been done, because it is the opposition of what has been done, there is pervasion. Therefore, in the Ornament of the Middle Way, it is said: If there is no pervasive exclusion of what is determined, then these two non-existences are the nature of existing in mutual exclusion. Saying this is also very good. Second, the definition of indirect contradiction that is mutually exclusive is: although they are not mutually decisional opposites, it is necessary to rely on the determination that there is a common basis and that it is certainly harmed by valid cognition to determine that it is a mutually exclusive contradiction. This and the contradiction of mutually exclusive harm by other valid cognitions have the same meaning. For example, what has been done and what is permanent, or what is certainly destroyed and what is relative, are the same. Because it is harmed by other valid cognitions, it is like what has been determined and what is relative. Thus it is said. Third, in the valid cognition that determines contradiction, merely determining it as contradiction is the valid cognition that determines that the two are other and that a common basis is impossible, and the meaning of contradiction is needed.
