That itself is an obstacle to generating a later generation of its own kind with equal power, and it acts as a co-operative cause for generating a later generation of the same kind but with less power. Because the heat touch of the fire itself serves as the direct substantial cause for the powerful later generation, that cold touch with less power, which has no ability to generate its own kind, and that powerful later heat touch, when both arise simultaneously and meet on the same basis, in its second moment, the cold touch will not arise, but will be cut off. Therefore, that single moment of weak cold touch and the single moment of strong heat touch meet and coexist for the duration of a single moment, but because they become dense in two moments, there is no cold and heat together, so they do not continue to coexist. That collection of fire that appears nearby is also the last moment of cold touch, because it lacks the ability to generate a later generation of the same kind, so it is a co-operative cause for the arising of cold touch objects. If it is said that the later cold touch has no ability to generate a later generation of the same kind, and that it is generated by that collection, that is unreasonable, because its lack of ability to generate the same kind is a negative negation, so it is unnecessary. For any of the cold and hot touches and light and darkness, etc., meeting in the first moment, and making it weak in the second moment, there is not even a slight mention of this in any standard treatises such as the Tattvasamgraha, but it is only terminology spoken by some early Tibetans, familiar to the ears through transmission. Furthermore, the cold touch that is the necessary cause for the last moment of cold touch becoming weak, and the touch that exists nearby at the same time, are not contradictory to the coexistence of what is harmed and what harms, because it has not cut off its continuity, but from that cold touch there still arises a second continuation of the same kind. Such a hot touch and a weak cold touch are not what is harmed and what harms, but are mutually beneficial cause and effect. Therefore, cold touch and powerful heat touch are what is harmed and what harms, and the way of harming is that heat touch, with the power of coming close, makes the later moment of cold touch weak, and in its later moment, the cold touch

Great heat and cold touch are in terms of harmers and harmed, in the sense that they contradict each other by not coexisting in a continuum. When a small energy of cold touch meets an obstacle, even a great energy of heat touch contradicts not coexisting with that small energy of cold touch, because the small energy, from the perspective of powerfully hindering the production of similar subsequent ones, is what severs its continuum. If the duration of a single moment is not contradictory to coexisting, then great energy of heat touch and merely cold touch would also become an unacceptable contradiction to coexisting. The measure of these second, third, and so on moments is not the ultimate short moment of time, but the moment when the nature of any object is established, which is the moment cut off upwards that can only be determined by retrospective direct perception. Secondly, there are two times when the harmed, which is contrary from the perspective of time, reverses: the time when the harmed of matter reverses, and the time when the harmed of the inner mind's abandonment of the opponent reverses. The first is, to explain by taking light and darkness as examples, the collection of darkness of that basis before the light of the candle begins to enter from the direction of the door of the room covered in darkness is not close to hindering the production of similar subsequent ones, but is in a powerful state to produce it from the perspective of the complete aggregation of causes and conditions. When the light of the candle is directed towards entering from the door and comes close to the door, the darkness inside at the same time is an obstacle to the powerful production of the darkness of its next moment, and is a co-factor that produces weakness that cannot produce similar ones, and the weak darkness produced like that is the last moment of the darkness that pervades that basis. It is simultaneously directed towards cessation, and the basis that it now pervades is simultaneously directed towards the production of the light of the candle. The cessation of the last darkness of that basis and the first production of light are simultaneous. Therefore, it says in Hetubindu: In the first moment, there is temporarily no incompleteness of the aggregation of causes and conditions. In the second moment, the light that arises simultaneously with the previous collection produces a collection that is separated from the ability to produce other darkness, so in the third moment, darkness
