If it is thought that the ground cannot be established, then who else should be sought other than the ox that has abandoned impurities and the like? If liberation and omniscience are not established by direct perception, then even if one does not wish it, one must admit that the four truths are not established by direct perception. It follows that the two obscurations are separable in the mind-stream, which should not be established by direct reasoning, because the two obscurations are abandoned by the antidote, which should not be established by direct reasoning. If you admit, then it follows that impurity is the nature of the mind, which should not be refuted by direct reasoning. If you admit this, then it follows that the suchness of the mind cannot be realized by direct reasoning. In this way, it will be necessary to admit that the two truths are extremely obscure, so you will not be able to establish even one dharma that is established by direct perception. In this way, those things that are admitted to be extremely obscure cannot be proven by credible reasons, because if scriptures and reasons are cited to prove the three aspects of that reason, then to prove those three aspects, scriptures and so on must also be cited, and scriptures must be cited endlessly. If the three aspects are proven by direct perception, then the fault that the four truths and the two truths cannot all be established by direct perception is exposed. Therefore, there will not be even a particle of dharma established by valid cognition. If the two truths are established by the valid cognition of direct perception, then the suchness of the mind, the self-nature of purity, must be established by direct perception. In this way, impurity is established in the mind-stream as separable by the power of the antidote. Therefore, it is also established by direct perception that impurity is separated from the mind by the power of the antidote, so liberation and omniscience are established by direct perception. Similarly, according to your view, all of this discussion of the reasons for proving the existence of yogic direct perception, spoken by the Lord of Reasoning, must be regarded as merely apparent reasons. Because after pointing out the fault that the Buddha is not established by valid cognition, it is necessary to abandon the establisher established by valid cognition, so your coming to debate this matter makes it even clearer that you have become outsiders to the Buddhist teachings, because such a thing is impossible in one's own school that vows to have the Buddha as its teacher. If this is the case, then how should this text be explained?

When the Vaibhashikas argue for the non-existence of omniscience, they cite the "non-apprehension" as a reason. This is because the Vaibhashikas do not accept any pramana (valid cognition) other than direct sensory perception. Therefore, they establish the "non-apprehension by sensory perception" as a reason. The response to this is: If it exists, it should be something that is perceivable by your sensory perception. Only then can your non-apprehension by sensory perception be considered a valid reason. However, if it exists but is not perceivable by your sensory perception, then your non-apprehension by sensory perception cannot determine that such a thing does not exist. This has already been thoroughly explained in the context of "just because it is not seen does not mean it does not exist." Even if something exists, if it is not perceivable by that pramana, then the non-apprehension by that pramana does not establish its non-existence. Therefore, things that are extremely obscure to the sensory perception of the Vaibhashikas, such as eons, omniscience, and the afterlife, are not within the scope of the Vaibhashikas' sensory perception. The power of the Vaibhashikas' sensory perception does not have the ability to determine whether they exist or not. That is to say, omniscience and other things are matters of eons for the sensory consciousness of the Vaibhashikas, so it is said that they are extremely obscure to that consciousness. It is not that omniscience and other things are generally extremely obscure. Even if something is extremely obscure to that consciousness, it does not necessarily mean that the object to be measured is extremely obscure relative to that consciousness. For example, it can be determined with certainty that eating meat is extremely obscure in the object in front of you, but there may be doubt as to whether eating meat is an object to be measured in the object in front of you. Omniscience and other things are for the sensory consciousness of the Vaibhashikas, although it is extremely obscure, it is not extremely obscure relative to the Vaibhashika person, because in front of the Vaibhashika, the existence of omniscience can be proven with a valid reason that necessarily follows. If this were not the case, then in front of the Vaibhashika, it would not be possible to prove the existence of omniscience, and it would be necessary to prove it with the force of yogic direct perception, so there would be no opponent, and in front of the Samkhyas, it would also not be possible to prove that sound is impermanent with the force of reality. Here, the phrase "for the extremely obscure" is taken to be in terms of the aspect of sensory consciousness, and Lhawang Blo also believes that omniscience and other things are beyond the senses, so it is said to be extremely obscure.
