It appears like the earth. If one thinks that this is non-human, but rather a gift from a god or a sacrificial offering, then one will doubt both the gift from a god and the sacrificial offering. Furthermore, one will doubt whether the thing that appears is a jewel or the light of a jewel. Third, this is not inference. If it were inference, the light of the jewel would have to be a sign, because one does not understand the light of the jewel as the light of the jewel, but rather clings to the jewel. Moreover, it is not direct perception either, because although direct perception only grasps the light of the jewel, it does not rely on the actual jewel in any way, and the light is seen in the crack of the door, but it is obtained as if it were the depths of the wall. Direct perception cannot be a valid cognition ( प्रमाण ) for things that exist apart from the place and time of their object of apprehension. As it is said in the scriptures, "For thought, there is no deception, even illusion is valid cognition." For the matter of thought or the matter of analysis, it is valid cognition. But here, one does not obtain what one thinks, nor does one think that what one obtains exists in the place where one thinks it exists, because when one sees the light in the crack of the door, one thinks that there is a jewel there, but one obtains it in the depths of the wall. When one directly perceives that the jewel and its light are in an inseparable position, the determination that "there is a jewel here" is guided by the power of direct perception ( प्रत्यक्ष प्रमाण ), but that is not the example being used here. Fourth, there are two divisions: eliminating uncertainty about permanence and momentariness, and eliminating uncertainty about grossness and subtlety. First, if this is the case, then the direct perception that grasps blue will also become non-valid cognition, because one does not understand the momentariness of blue, and even when one obtains it, one does not obtain the moment. If this were not the case, it would become obtaining permanence. There is no fault, because although blue is momentary, obtaining blue cannot be established as obtaining the moment, and in the world, one does not speak of obtaining the moment. Even if it could be established, obtaining the moment would not become obtaining something other than blue, because blue is not something other than the moment. The jewel obtained in the depths of the wall is a different thing from the light of the jewel seen in the crack of the door, which is separated in place. Second, again, for the understood blue

The coarse is "having," and obtaining is obtaining the subtle. Coarse and subtle are also contradictory, so grasping blue becomes non-valid. If you say so, although one does not realize the extremely subtle particles that blue cognizes, the blue that is seen is the nature of many extremely subtle particles. When obtaining, one also obtains the blue that has become the nature of many extremely subtle particles, so there is no fault of not obtaining what is cut off. The commentator says: Therefore, from the light of a jewel, the knowledge that knows the jewel, at that time, is definitely direct perception or inference. This is unreasonable, because taking the light of a jewel as a jewel, and the mind that sees the light of a jewel through a crack in the door and takes it as an actual jewel, is a wrong view. The eye consciousness that sees the light of a jewel is also a direct cause of leading to its own result, wrong view, so it contradicts validity. Although there is no difference from erroneous consciousness. Saying this is because of direct opposition. Therefore, the meaning of the words is this: If one only takes what is fabricated as the object of grasping, one does not grasp the own-character of the object. If one asks, is the ability to obtain the own-character of the object from that contradictory? From the non-erroneous consciousness that takes the own-character of the object as the object of grasping, it is also seen that one obtains the own-character of the object by relying on it in other ways. Therefore, if it is an erroneous consciousness, it is not certain that one can obtain the own-character by relying on it. If one can obtain the own-character from that, how can it become erroneous? To this point, the answer has already been given: Because it is not manifest as it is. If one asks, how does one see the way of realization in other ways? The detailed explanation is that for the light of a jewel and the light of a lamp, when a person appears to run in order to obtain a jewel with the mind that takes it as a jewel, although these two minds are no different from erroneous consciousness, relying on taking the light of a jewel as a jewel, one can accomplish the function of obtaining the own-character of the jewel in an indirect way. However, taking the light of a lamp as a jewel cannot accomplish such a function in an indirect way. Therefore, these two minds accomplish the function of obtaining the jewel in an indirect way, just like the difference between having the ability and not having the ability. The inference of understanding sound as impermanent and the appearance of such conceptualization are like wrong views. The object of grasping that appears as it is, without fabrication.
