Explaining solely from the perspective of self-character, it is held that the ultimate object of measurement, the unique self-character, is realized manifestly through its own nature appearing, and through the distinction of realizing it through the nature of what is hidden to others, the object of measurement is considered to be twofold: manifest and hidden. However, there is no explanation to dispel the doubt of contradicting the root text of Pramana. As the deity said, "If there is only one object of measurement, then how can the teacher Dignāga (Tibetan: Phyogs glang) say, 'Self-character has two, the object of measurement, the other is non-existent'?" The reason for saying so is that the unique self-nature of the self-character, unmixed with others, is made the object of manifest appearance and realized. And inference, the appearance of self-character that has become the nature of the other general character, is grasped by clinging to the self-character in the manner of the non-self-character appearing as the self-character. Therefore, the teacher considers the object of measurement to be twofold, so that the needs of those with realization can be fulfilled, and there is no fault of contradicting the statement that the object of measurement is only self-character. Some say, "Because there are two objects of measurement, there are two valid cognitions." The "two objects of measurement" in this statement and the "two objects of measurement are established for the sake of realization" are considered to have the same meaning. But "Because it is the nature of self-character" implies that the two objects of measurement are not explained solely from the perspective of the mode of realization, because the object of measurement in "two objects of measurement are established for the sake of realization" also includes the general character. Some raise this objection. As for our own system, the "two objects of measurement" in the above texts refer to self-character and general character, while the "two objects of measurement" here refer to manifest and hidden. Furthermore, it is unreasonable to assert that inference is also a valid cognition that measures only the hidden object of measurement, because "Because it is the nature of self and other" implies that it is unreasonable to explain the two objects of measurement, manifest and hidden, solely from the perspective of the mode of realization, because the hidden object of measurement in "two objects of measurement are established for the sake of realization" also includes non-entities. All three wheels are acknowledged. Furthermore, your thesis is contradictory, and the way the scriptures explain it can be understood by relying on what has been said before. Thus, since there is such a difference in the mode of realization between the two valid cognitions, there is also a difference between being mistaken and not mistaken. To show this, the second valid cognition, inference, is considered to be mistaken, because the object...

Because it does not appear and cling as it actually exists, because it is the consciousness of appearance there. To refute this, the argument is: if inference is not valid, then, because it is a delusion that understands in a way that appears different from how things actually exist. Like the mind that sees a mirage as water. If so, then the inference that understands sound as impermanent is valid, the subject. Even if it is a delusion, it does not contradict that it is valid, because even if it is a delusion, it refers to the fact that there is no new deception for its own object of measurement. In Lhawang Lo's commentary, it says: The inference of conceptuality, for the part that appears as external, clings to what is not its own characteristic as its own characteristic. The meaning here is that the concept that holds the pot, takes the general meaning of the pot, which is not the self-characteristic of the pot, as the self-characteristic of the pot, and mistakes the appearance and imputation as one, and clings to the self-characteristic of the pot. This does not mean that it clings to the general meaning of the pot as the pot, because, as mentioned above, it observes the image of the face, and the way of combining metaphor and meaning. And, for the inference that understands sound as impermanent, it is unreasonable to have two different ways of clinging at the same time, thinking that sound is impermanent, and thinking that one's own appearance is the impermanent sound of the external environment. And, it is unreasonable for inference to be valid for one aspect of its object of clinging, and wrong knowledge for the other. If inference is valid, and there is no delusion about its object of clinging, then by what valid cognition is it established? Because there is no deception for what one has completely determined, and one can determine it by one's own power, so there is no delusion about the object of clinging, and one can also determine it by one's own power, without relying on other valid cognitions. If there is delusion about the object of appearance, inference itself cannot be established, nor is it established by the power of self-awareness that one experiences. If that were the case, then separating the appearance and imputation of concepts, all the reasons for refuting the establishment of the concept that holds the general meaning as it appears would become meaningless. Here some say: The second is admitted to be a delusion. Etc., these refer to the fact that inference is valid and there is delusion about the object of appearance, not to inference in general.
