According to the commentary tradition of Nala Wanglo, if "everything has the ability," then this initial position is generally held by both Madhyamikas, and especially by the Prasangikas who assert that intrinsic characteristics have a function. They are taken as the proponents of the initial position and are refuted. Therefore, in that commentary itself, when explaining the reasoning of the initial position, the reasoning is: whatever does not exist in something, that does not become its characteristic, like horns on a horse. For those who believe that self-nature also has a function, this is not universally applicable, because no universal application is found. If that is the case, it is unreasonable to establish ultimate truth by way of functioning through one's own nature without relying on the mind. Because all things do not have the non-fabricated ability to function through their own nature, the characteristic of ultimate truth is impossible. That is its meaning. The answer to this is that the reason is not established, because seeds, etc., are manifestly seen to have the ability to produce sprouts, etc. The meaning is, how can what is directly seen become fabricated? If it is said that the fact of seeing the production of fruit directly is conventional truth, and if the characteristic of ultimate truth is established merely through that, then it is too broad. Then, how would it become like that? By showing the answer with "how would it become like that," if it is merely fabricated, how would it become such an unmistaken object of perception? No matter how it is named, the meaning of self-established reality has already been admitted. Those who hold that there are two distinctions of functioning, namely, ultimately established and not established, have abandoned these texts far away. If it is said that in all conventional things, there is the direct seeing of functioning, then what contradiction is there for them? If, for the common basis of the two, this school has not been able to show a valid cognition that is harmful, then saying "seeds, etc., for sprouts, etc." will all become mere words. The harmful valid cognition that this school itself asserts is: just as form produces self-grasping eye consciousness, the appearance of form in conceptual thought should also be able to produce self-grasping. Because these two...

It is similar in that it is merely imputed and does not establish even a little of its own entity. It is powerless in desire, and the appearance of conceptualization as form, which has become a general characteristic, and the mind that grasps it, because the causal relationship of following and reversing in conceptualization is not seen by valid cognition. Therefore, just as the senses such as the eye and the five objects such as form and the five consciousnesses of the mind, the general meaning and conceptualization must also be directed towards the following and reversing of cause and effect, but because they are not directed, the general characteristic is only capable of producing self-grasping consciousness. Moreover, according to the tenets of the Sutra School and others, if mere conventional imputation can accomplish a purpose, then everything should be able to accomplish a purpose, which is too extreme. However, if the Madhyamikas accomplish a purpose by their own nature, without relying on mental designation, then everything should be able to accomplish a purpose, which is too extreme. Although both the Prasangika and Svatantrika Madhyamikas assert that the number of valid cognitions is definitely two, perception and inference, the Prasangikas do not accept that the object to be measured is definitely two, self-character and general-character, except for the Svatantrikas. The phrase "eye and form, etc." is like the explanation of Lhading Blo connecting "eye, etc." with "form, etc." As such, this explanation refutes the assertion that the conceptualization of "it is a pot," etc., which are parts, arise from other objects, and that the conceptualization of lifting and placing, etc., is the action of other objects, and that general awareness and general meaning are the action of other objects, and that the qualities of numbers in the conceptualization of hundreds and thousands, etc., arise from other substances. They only follow the root cause of the internal parts such as signs and intentional effort. Because they do not see the parts, other objects, etc., following and reversing them. The connection of "hair comb, etc." and "etc." is not a refutation of the argument that "hair comb should also be included there" because it is said that the general characteristic pervades the inability to accomplish a purpose. Since such a pervasion of non-objective bases has not been accepted, there is no basis. However, even if such a pervasion is stated with respect to objects, hair combs, etc., are not objects, because the doubt has already been cut off by establishing that they are non-objects, so there is no need to refute it again here. Therefore, in the commentary of Lhading Blo, it is also said: "If there is no cause that depends on the object"
