It indicates that it exists. Like this, the four dharmas such as not being able to function are the distinguishing dharmas of the general characteristic, and conversely, the four dharmas such as being able to function are said to be the distinguishing dharmas of the self-characteristic. By saying this, the general characteristics are merely conventional truths, and merely conventional truths are only established by conceptual thought. They do not exist in a way of abiding that is established by their own nature without relying on the establishment of conceptual thought. However, self-characteristics and the ability to function are said to be truly established in a way of abiding that can withstand scrutiny, established by their own nature without relying on the establishment of conceptual thought. Through this way, the uncommon ultimate truth and conventional truth of the Sautrāntika school are clearly explained. Furthermore, the basis of that, the two, self-characteristic and general characteristic, and the two, the object to be measured of being able to function and not being able to function, are separately and definitely shown. Summarizing its meaning, it says, "What is the ultimate truth that can function?" etc. This verse is spoken. Therefore, in order to completely establish the Sautrāntika school's own system of the two truths, the object to be measured is determined as the two, self-characteristic and general characteristic, and the reason including the four aspects and the summary of meaning is spoken. Therefore, ultimate truth and so on are the main aspects of the meaning, and therefore, here, if the self-characteristic is pervaded by the ability to function, etc., and like this, the classification of the two truths is explained, etc., these are the classification of the uncommon tenets of the Sautrāntika school. As explained in this way, it will be explained in detail in the following texts, such as the root consciousness being the result of its own apprehended object, etc., will be said a lot. Therefore, the great teacher Dharmakīrti also said in this context of determining the number of valid cognitions: "Whatever is said slightly here that is in accordance with reason should not be applied to those who speak of consciousness-only, because by the power of meaning, it is a true arising." Like this, because it does not conform to the view of consciousness-only. It is said so. The difference between the occasions of the two tenets has been explained in detail before. In this regard, here, Dromtönpa said that the Sanskrit translation of the word ultimate truth is not in the Indian texts. In the commentaries of Nyima Serspa and others, the root verses do not have ultimate truth, Lhawangpa

In the translation of the commentary, although the root states, "What is the ability to function ultimately?" the word "ultimately" is not emphasized in the commentary. The meaning is the result, and its function is to produce. What is the ability of that function? It is the ability to directly produce oneself. That, here, in this treatise, is ultimately existent. It is intended to be existent as a real entity. And so on, the ability to function is pervaded by ultimate existence, and ultimate existence and real existence are clearly explained as the same meaning. However, the "here" mentioned here is best explained as referring to this occasion of demonstrating the unique two truths of the Sautrāntikas. Therefore, since the ability to function is actually mentioned, the other three are indicated. So, the four, such as the ability to function, are ultimately existent, and the four, such as the dharma that cannot function, are merely conventionally existent. That is, only those that are ultimately existent are self-characteristics, and only those that are merely conventionally existent are general characteristics. This should be understood and explained as grasping the key points. Here, for "explained as self-characteristic," etc., adding explanations such as "explained as the self-characteristic of self-characteristic," etc., and adding them merely with one's own ideas, It is wrong to show the definitions of both self and general characteristics, because it has already been said above. Some who do not understand explain the definition of the two truths here as being in accordance with what is said in the Abhidharmakośa, such as "What is destroyed and different by wisdom," etc., which is wrong. If that were the case, then in this case, too, one would have to consider the pot to be conventional and not ultimately existent. The views of the Sautrāntikas stated in the root and commentary of the Abhidharmakośa are not completely accepted here, because there are many differences in the classifications of the views of the Sautrāntikas stated there and stated here. For example, just as there are many differences in the views within the Madhyamaka school and within the Yogācāra school. So, what is the definition of the two truths here? It is explained that the ability to function and self-characteristic are the basis of the characteristic of the ultimate truth, and that the dharma that does not function and the general characteristic are the basis of the characteristic of the conventional truth. But this does not mean that these are the definitions of the respective two truths. The definition of the ultimate truth is understanding
