Any dissimilar responses should be refuted. What has been shown before should be understood as merely symbolic. In the treatise Root Wisdom, the purpose of refutation and establishment is to express the reversal of the conceptualization of clinging to truth. As we have already shown in the context of "beings are bound by conceptualization," etc. How can there be a thorough refutation of the treatise? A thorough refutation is because one fears that one's own view will have errors, so one thoroughly refutes the views of others. Here, what I refute of others' views does not exist in the ultimate truth either, because nothing exists in the ultimate truth. Therefore, how can there be a thorough refutation? If someone thinks that not establishing one's own view and refuting others' views is the characteristic of the ultimate truth, then would this practice become the true characteristic of a thorough refuter? Since the Madhyamaka does not establish its own view in a conventional way, nor does it think that refuting others' views in the ultimate truth, since both do not exist, then there is no thorough refutation for the Madhyamaka either, so it is unreasonable in every way. Thus, thus, the remainder of the refutation mentioned earlier should be understood through this very side that was just mentioned. Among them, starting from "it is not born from itself" and ending with "the wise will quickly be liberated," the selflessness of phenomena is clarified. From "all afflictions and faults arise from the aggregate of destruction," etc., up to this point, the selflessness of persons is clarified. The third part has two points: briefly explaining the divisions of emptiness; explaining the meaning of each division in detail. The first point is, in order to explain the divisions of emptiness, it is said: This selflessness of phenomena, which are without inherent existence, has been spoken of by the Blessed One as two kinds of divisions: the selflessness of persons and the selflessness of phenomena. The way to divide these two is not to divide them on the basis of two different non-existent "selves" on the basis of the aggregates of beings and phenomena, because the non-existent "self" is inherently established. Therefore, the basis of the aggregates of phenomena, etc.

It is divided according to the distinction between Dharma and Person. Question: Why are these two taught? The absence of self of the person is taught in order to liberate the Hearers and Solitary Realizers from samsara; in order to liberate the Bodhisattva practitioners by attaining omniscience, both absences of self are taught. As previously explained, Hearers and Solitary Realizers also see the suchness of just this aspect of dependent origination, but they do not have the categories of the absence of self of phenomena as previously explained, nor do they cultivate it completely from the perspective of time. However, they do have a method for abandoning the seeds of the afflictions of the three realms. For them, it is established that they have cultivated the complete absence of self of the person, the self of the person that is established by its own nature. Even though they do not generate the wisdom of limitless reasoning that refutes the true establishment of the person, they do have the complete cultivation of the antidote to the seeds of affliction, but they do not have the complete cultivation of the antidote to the obscuration of knowledge. Thus, these two absences of self, the Bhagavan again, for those to be tamed, according to their various thoughts, separately taught with many kinds of detailed explanations. For example, in the Mother Sutra, the sixteen divisions of emptiness are explained, and then again they are briefly summarized into four, and these are also accepted in the Great Vehicle, that is how it is explained. Thus, there are two divisions of briefness, four divisions of medium length, and sixteen divisions of extensive length. As it is said: "Subhuti, furthermore, the Great Vehicle of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is like this, namely, internal emptiness, external emptiness, internal-external emptiness, emptiness of emptiness, great emptiness, ultimate emptiness, conditioned emptiness, unconditioned emptiness, emptiness beyond extremes, emptiness of beginningless and endless, emptiness of non-abandonment, emptiness of own-nature, emptiness of all dharmas, emptiness of self-character, emptiness of non-apprehension, emptiness of non-entity nature." Thus, after teaching the sixteen emptinesses, Subhuti, furthermore, things are empty by things.
