Thirdly, if one clings to either extreme of permanence or annihilation, one will fall into the abyss of wrong views. However, it is not like clinging to the permanence of the unconditioned or the cessation of the continuity of birth and death due to karma for an Arhat. Therefore, one should distinguish between the extremes of permanence and annihilation that lead to falling into opposition to the correct view, and the difference between permanence and annihilation themselves. If one considers that the extremes of permanence and annihilation, which are the basis for falling into clinging to extremes, do not exist, then this is referred to as transcendence of extremes. That emptiness which is the nature of being free from extremes, achieved by being free from extremes, is referred to as the emptiness that transcends extremes. As it is said in the Samadhiraja Sutra: "Having abandoned the two extremes of existence and non-existence, and purity and impurity, one does not abide even in the middle." This is taught in order to dispel the clinging to reality that thinks there is a true middle after abandoning the extremes. For example, the Mind-Only school believes that the middle mind, which is free from extremes such as permanence and annihilation according to their own system, is truly established. Since there is no beginning, saying "it did not arise before this, but arose from here," and no final extreme, saying "it will not arise after this," therefore, samsara is said to be without beginning or end. Because it is free from being established by the nature of coming and going, this existence, like a dream, is the emptiness without beginning or end, established by the nature of that existence, whatever that peacefulness is, as clearly stated in the great treatise, the Mother of the Buddhas Sutra. The term "abandoning" refers to scattering and losing. And not abandoning is not casting away, that is, not abandoning one's own essence at any time, which is the Great Vehicle that cannot be abandoned. Not abandoning is the emptiness achieved by the very nature of not abandoning, that is, the emptiness of emptiness itself, which is called the emptiness of not abandoning. Because emptiness is the nature of not abandoning. The nature of phenomena, the essence of conditioned things and so on, is called self-nature. For what reason? Because the nature of phenomena, the essence of conditioned things and so on, is not created by the Shravaka disciples, Pratyekabuddhas, Bodhisattva sons of the Buddhas, and the Tathagatas, but it is what clarifies them.

Yes. Because it has been inherent in the nature of those things from the very beginning. The emptiness of inherent nature, which is established by its own essence, is the emptiness of inherent nature. Then, hasn't this principle also been stated in the context of emptiness of emptiness? It is true, but in the previous case, it was the emptiness of inner and outer phenomena, in order to eliminate the doubt of whether it is truly established by the intellect that measures it. Here, because it is the inherent nature that is established by nature without being created by anyone, it is said to eliminate the doubt of whether it will be considered truly established, so it is not repeated. If you understand that these two reasons for doubt both exist in the nature of phenomena, but can prevent true establishment without contradiction, then you can stop the inverted discriminations that cling to the ultimate truth that cannot be understood by any mind. The fourth has three: explaining the emptiness of all phenomena, the emptiness of self-characteristics, and the emptiness of the nature of unobtainability and non-existence. The first is: all phenomena, that is, the six realms of dependent sense organs such as the eye, the six realms of consciousness that depend on eye consciousness, etc., the six realms of objects that are the objects of perception such as form, etc., a total of eighteen realms, and the six contacts from eye contact to mind contact, and the six feelings arising from those six contacts, and the two, form and formless, and similarly, conditioned and unconditioned phenomena, etc. All these phenomena are the emptiness that is devoid of being established by their own essence, this is the emptiness of all phenomena. The second has three: brief explanation, detailed explanation, and summary of meaning. The first is: the characteristic of the form aggregate is that it is included in destructible etc., the respective characteristics of all pure phenomena from the form aggregate to omniscience, that is, things, that is, the emptiness established by one's own essence, is the emptiness of self-characteristics. The second has three: the self-characteristics of the ground of phenomena, the path of phenomena, and the fruit of phenomena. The first is: again, what are the respective characteristics of form etc.? Form is characterized by being destructible, to which, the sutra says: monks, form
