If one says that "truth" is merely the distinction of real things, and claims that it is truly established; and if others think that, like red and yellow clay, one is free to establish what is not merely the exclusion of what is to be refuted, and believes that to be true, both of these views are severely criticized by the Buddha. Secondly: Since there is no container and contained outside of the directions such as the east, sentient beings and the world of containers pervade the human body, and when practicing the four immeasurables such as loving-kindness, since it is practiced on all sentient beings pervading the directions, it is established as immeasurable from the perspective of the object of focus. Just as the example of the immeasurability of directions is immeasurable, so too, there is no limit to such practice, that is, it is established as immeasurable, therefore the ten directions are great. These ten directions, such as the east, are all established by the nature of the directions, therefore emptiness is great emptiness, which is spoken to dispel the grasping of the directions as being inherently established as great. The inverted grasping of directions is like the various non-Buddhist schools believing that the directions are permanent substances. The word "ultimate meaning" has two usages, one is to express necessity, like "this is meaningful," and the other is to express the object of knowledge, like "five meanings." Here, nirvana is the dharmakaya, because nirvana is the supreme necessity to be attained. The dharmakaya is established by its own nature, therefore emptiness is ultimate emptiness, which is also to dispel the grasping of reality by those who have minds that grasp the nirvana dharmakaya as real, therefore the Buddha, who understands the ultimate meaning, taught ultimate emptiness. Because it arises from causes and conditions, that is, because it is born, the three realms are certainly called conditioned phenomena. These three realms are established by their nature, therefore emptiness is said to be conditioned emptiness. For any dharma, there is no birth and impermanence, that is, cessation or destruction, and change from abiding, that is unconditioned. It is established by its nature, therefore emptiness is called unconditioned emptiness.
