Returning to the point, such a nature of reality, I also speak of it in reliance on the conventional truth, that is, established merely in name, as unartificial and not dependent on others. Whatever nature of reality that should not be examined by childish beings with their self-complacent minds is reasonable in its own nature. Merely acknowledging that it exists in the conventional does not thereby mean that in the ultimate it is established by its own nature as existent or non-existent, because to be established by its own nature is itself peace. This nature of reality is not only accepted by the noble teacher Āryadeva, but it is also capable of making other opponents accept this view. Therefore, this nature is also established as something that is agreed upon by both oneself and others at the end of the debate. This statement needs to be particularly noted. If one wants to understand it according to those who say that the nature of fire, etc., is heat, etc., then that is not possible in any way, because heat, etc., are dependently arisen, and therefore are artificial, and are existent having arisen in dependence on causes and conditions. Eyes, etc., are not without artificiality, nor are they independent of other causes and conditions. It is also not reasonable to say that, because the term "in that" does not have an object of attachment, and it is in order to show such a meaning in the conventional. This appears in the Tsap translation. And in the Naktsö translation it says: "Because in that there is no such attachment, and it is in order to accomplish the meaning as it is in the conventional." It is good to say "in that, thus." The remaining meaning is that there is no object of clinging to as truly existent, and it is in order to show such a meaning of artificiality and dependence on others in the conventional. Thus, the acceptance of self-nature as shown by the noble teacher Āryadeva, as it is said in the *Praise of the Dharmadhātu*: "Emptiness is the sutra that teaches, all that the Buddhas have spoken, all of those can pacify afflictions, this realm does not cause it to deteriorate." This means that the sutra class that teaches emptiness destroys the object of affliction of clinging to reality, but it is not saying that because that object is prevented, emptiness causes the tathāgatagarbha to deteriorate, that is, it is not saying that it does not exist.

These spoken emptinesses should also be understood. Among them, saying that eyes, etc., are empty of eyes, etc., is to clarify that eyes, etc., are empty of being established by their own nature. It is not like the Hearers' school, which believes that emptiness is the absence of a functioning self within the eye, nor is it like the Mind-Only school, which believes that emptiness is merely the difference between the object taken by the eye consciousness and the subject that takes it. Rather, it is not like believing that eyes, etc., are not established by their own essence, and that emptiness is the absence of one in the other. Secondly, the six objects, such as form, which are not included by consciousness, are empty of being established by their own nature, that is, without self-nature. This is considered external emptiness. External form is empty because it is established by the nature of form, because the nature of form is such. Sound, smell, taste, touch, and phenomena should also be understood in the same way. For these and the rest, it is said in the sutra, "Because it is not permanent, nor is it destroyed," which should be understood as explained in the previous chapter on internal emptiness. Like the body, which is the basis of the senses and is included by consciousness, it is included by consciousness but not by the senses, so it is both internal and external. Its lack of self-nature, which is established by its own essence, is internal and external emptiness, and the rest is as before. As previously explained, the internal and external dharmas are not established by their own nature, and the wise call this emptiness. The self-nature emptiness of internal and external dharmas is also considered to be established by the nature of emptiness, or to be true emptiness. In this way, the emptiness that is the basis of emptiness is called the emptiness of emptiness. Saying that emptiness is truly empty means that in order to dispel the clinging to reality of those who think that emptiness or dharmata is real, it is said in the Mother of the Buddhas (Prajnaparamita Sutra). This can also be clearly seen in the Praise Beyond the World: To eliminate all conceptual thoughts, you taught the nectar of emptiness, and if someone clings to it, you will severely criticize him. These indicate that some ultimate truth
