This is a mistaken assumption about the dependent arising of a coiled rope, because the snake is not on that rope. A real snake is fully established, because it is not universally assumed in the absence of it. Similarly, the nature of intrinsic existence (svabhāva) is also like that; on the other powers (paratantra) that are fabricated, it is universally assumed in the absence of it. As it is said in the Root Wisdom: "Intrinsic existence is not fabricated, and does not depend on others." Therefore, the essence of intrinsic existence is not fabricated. The apprehended, that is, the seen, is like a fabricated dependent arising image; the intrinsic existence that is universally assumed on that is the real intrinsic existence for the field of activity of the Buddhas who see things as they are. Because there, it is not universally assumed in the absence of it. Since objects are fabricated by causes and conditions, and that wisdom does not touch it, but only manifests intrinsic existence, therefore, by understanding that, one is called a Buddha. The cessation of ignorance will be explained later. Therefore, having understood the classification of these three intrinsic existences, one should explain the intention of the sutras. By that way of explanation, one should also understand the intention of explaining the three characteristics in the chapter of Maitreya's Questions. And, one should also understand that the intention of explaining the three intrinsic existences in the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra is provisional. The Mind-Only school considers that the assumption of the two different entities of grasper and grasped on the other-powered, which is the basis of imputation, as the completely imputed, is something to be thought about or examined, because the grasper and grasped are both other-powered, and without the grasper and grasped, the other-powered does not exist. The final determination of the classification of the three intrinsic existences explained in the Maitreya's Questions and the three intrinsic existences explained in the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra has already been explained in the Discriminating the Definitive and the Non-definitive. The third is: Those naked ascetics who assert the two important words of arising from self and other, think that when a pot arises from a lump of clay, a stick, a wheel, thread, water, and a potter, the clay pot exists in the intrinsic nature of the clay, therefore it arises from self. And the actions of the potter and other things that have become other are the causes of the clay pot's arising, therefore they also think it arises from other. Just as in the external world, so too in the internal world, it arises from both self and other.

will also arise. Regarding a person and the cherished life, as well as non-life such as the senses, and the Dharma that accomplishes higher realms and definite goodness, and the non-Dharma that is the opposite of that, the defilements of afflictions and the vows that prevent misconduct, etc., which bring happiness and suffering, and the power of the formations that arise from knowledge and become the cause of knowledge, through analyzing the nine meanings of words, love exists in other lives only as the nature of life, therefore, in order to obtain this present life, it arises from self, because love and life are not other. Life has the characteristic of going from one life to another, therefore, other schools also believe that it wanders among beings such as gods. Furthermore, love also arises from one's own parents, as well as Dharma and non-Dharma, and other things such as defilements, therefore it also arises from others. Therefore, since we do not acknowledge that it arises only from each of self and other, the previous refutation of arising from each of self and other does not harm us. If someone says that not only is it unreasonable to arise from each individually, but it is also unreasonable to arise from the combination of both self and other, this is unreasonable, because the faults previously stated for each individually will also befall the side of arising from both. If it is thought that love depends on life and arises from self, then it will be refuted by the previously stated meaninglessness of arising, etc.; if it is thought that it arises from others depending on parents, etc., then it will be refuted by being too extreme, etc. Just as it was said above that arising from self and other is unreasonable in both conventional and ultimate truth, here too, in order to conclude that it is impossible to arise from both, it is said: arising from both self and other does not exist in the world, and is not acknowledged in ultimate truth either. Because arising from each of self and other is not established, arising from both is also unreasonable. Fourth, here the non-Buddhist who claims to arise from nature is: If arising is from a cause, then relative to the result, there will be the fault of arising as one of self, other, or both, but I have not acknowledged that arising is from a cause, so all three
