This will not be elaborated. Regarding this, although the word "only" prevents external objects, this sutra is of provisional meaning, so it is explained. The great scholar Lekden, however, believes that this sutra also explains that mind, body, enjoyment, and place are similar, that is, their forms arise by transforming like shadows, and that the appearance of non-appearance is also prevented by the mind's perception of the absence of external objects. Therefore, he explains that the word "only" does not prevent external objects. Second, the existence or non-existence of external appearances, etc., is shown by saying, "External objects do not exist, only the mind exists," which is not only of provisional meaning, but also the sutras of this kind mentioned earlier, the Mind-Only school acknowledges as definitive meaning. Furthermore, this scripture clarifies that it will become provisional meaning. So, what is that kind of sutra? In the *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra*, when explaining the three natures, it says: The completely imputed is non-existent, the dependent is existent, and similarly: The taking-aspect consciousness is deep and subtle, all seeds flow like a stream of water, it is not permissible to grasp as self, I have not shown this to children. And so on, as stated in the commentary. In this regard, the sutra distinguishes between the existence and non-existence of the completely imputed as non-existent by its own characteristic, and the dependent as existent by its own characteristic. Like the completely imputed as two selves, and the imputation of entities and differences to phenomena as established by their own characteristics, according to its system, it is impossible for objects of knowledge, but the many completely imputed imputations of entities and differences are established as a basis. The sutra says that both the dependent and the perfectly established are established by their own characteristics, but the commentary only mentions the dependent. This is because when arguing about the true existence or non-existence of Madhyamaka and Mind-Only, the focus of the argument is the dependent, because the basis for establishing the completely imputed is also the dependent, and the perfectly established must also rely on the dependent to be established. Thus distinguishing, this system also explains it as provisional meaning. Furthermore, in the sutra, the *ālaya-vijñāna* (taking-aspect consciousness) and so on, which is different in nature from the six entering consciousnesses in the eight consciousness aggregates, is also explained here as provisional meaning. If there is no *ālaya-vijñāna*, then the afflicted mind cannot be established.

And so on, the contents summarized by these words, in that sutra, there are two statements: the negation of external objects and the ultimate teaching of the three vehicles. Here, there are four points that need to be interpreted as provisional meaning. If these are not fully understood, generally, regarding Madhyamaka and Cittamatra, and especially the unique points of this system, one will not understand them. Therefore, a detailed explanation is given on how to distinguish between provisional and definitive meanings. In the Explication of Intent, which words show the absence of external objects? In the Compendium of Vehicles, it says: "Bhagavan, regarding the image of the object of meditative absorption, should it be considered different from the mind or not different?" The Bhagavan said: "Maitreya, it should be said to be not different. Why? Because consciousness is distinguished only by the mere recognition of the object." Thus, a clear explanation is given. The quotations above are these. This system interprets all four points mentioned earlier as provisional meaning. It does not do as some systems do, interpreting some as definitive and some as provisional. Regarding this system, the ultimate teaching of the three vehicles is not mentioned in the Commentary on Entering because the noble one himself understood from the Compendium of Sutras that the ultimate is to establish the one vehicle. The remaining three, that in the absence of external objects, only mind is established by its own nature, to clarify that this is provisional meaning through scripture, in the Lankavatara Sutra it says: "Just as a doctor gives various medicines to a sick person, so too the Buddha teaches only mind to sentient beings." This means that just as giving different medicines to different patients is not the doctor's own choice, but must be determined according to the patient's condition, so too the teaching of only mind is not due to the Buddha's own system, but is determined by the thoughts of the beings to be tamed. Therefore, know that the previous scripture is provisional meaning. In the explanation at the end of "Just as a sick person," etc., it says: "Similarly, what the Bhagavan said in the sutra..." up to "Perfect complete enlightenment will become like this," the quotations are from the Lankavatara Sutra, which uses reasoning to prove that the alaya consciousness is the ultimate truth, but it is a scripture of provisional meaning. Here, in the explanation, it says that the permanent, stable essence spoken of by "similarly" is provisional meaning, and similarly, only mind.
