Moreover, it is unreasonable to deny that there is a Vipāka-vijñāna other than that. The Vijñāna, Nāma, and Rūpa exist interdependently like a spear and a house, and it is not possible without the Vipāka-vijñāna. These statements would only be contradictory, because if one admits the existence of Rūpa-dharma, one must admit the existence of external objects. Therefore, even if one admits that Nāma-rūpa etc. arise from the condition of Vijñāna, one should not speak conversely, saying that one must admit the existence of external objects. There are very many such statements when explaining the uncommon tenets of the Cittamātra school. From the scriptures, one should also understand that the existence or non-existence of external objects and inner consciousness are the same. For example, in the Sutras on the mode of the Prajñāpāramitā, the Buddha has equally abandoned the inherent existence of all five Skandhas, i.e., has prohibited it. As it is said in the Sutra, "Subhuti, Rūpa is empty of inherent existence," and so on, until "Vijñāna is empty of inherent existence." In the Abhidharma, all five are equally explained from the perspective of their own and common characteristics, etc. Therefore, the opponent will destroy the order of the two truths, which is established by scripture and reasoning, that external objects and consciousness are non-dual in ultimate reality and co-exist in conventional reality, as previously explained. After destroying it in this way, the other-dependent established as substance by you Cittamātrins will not be established. Why? Because the other-dependent established as substance has been refuted many times before. Therefore, your efforts will become meaningless. Because it must be admitted that, without destroying the order of the two truths, the view is that it does not exist in ultimate reality but exists in name. Therefore, it should be understood that through the order as previously explained, phenomena from the beginning are not born in Suchness, but are born in worldly terms. This shows that phenomena are not born in ultimate reality, but are born in conventional reality, so the object to be negated must be clearly distinguished. Third, divided into two parts: showing that the Cittamātra without external objects spoken of in the Sutras is provisional; understanding the meaning of the definitive and provisional meanings of the Sutras.

The method of teaching. The first part has two aspects: teaching with provisional meaning scriptures, and teaching with reason. The first part has two aspects: the actual meaning, and other similar sutras also taught with provisional meaning. The first part is: Even if the meaning of the *Ten Bhumi Sutra* is explained in that way, even so, other scriptures such as the *Lankavatara Sutra* say: "External appearances exist or do not exist, the mind appears in various forms, body, enjoyment, and dwelling place, I have said are only mind." It is said. Therein, the body refers to the colored sense organs such as the eyes. Enjoyment refers to the five objects such as form and sound. The place refers to the container world. Because there is no external object apart from the mind, only consciousness appears as body, enjoyment, and place. When it arises, the body, etc., which exists as an object, appears as an external object different from consciousness. Therefore, the three realms are only mind. If you say so. This sutra is also said because it is said with intention. "Which sutra says that external appearances exist or do not exist, the mind appears in various forms." What is said, its intention is this: For those who are very attached to form, become objects of attachment, and are controlled by anger and arrogance, etc., and cannot be autonomous, and are attached to them and thus create great sins, and fall from accumulating merit and wisdom, in order to dispel the Blessed One's afflictions caused by form, for those with attachment, like a skeleton shown to destroy attachment to external objects, although it is not like that, it is only showing the mind only, it should be understood in this way. Again, the question is: this sutra is of provisional meaning, not of definitive meaning, from where is it determined? Answer: Because the sutra says "There is no external object, only mind", so the teacher said that this is of provisional meaning, so it can be established from the scriptures that it is of provisional meaning. Moreover, this sutra can also be established as provisional meaning by reason. Like "External appearances exist or do not exist", the word "only" shows only mind, as the *Ten Bhumi Sutra* says, it does not prevent external objects, but prevents other authors, this teacher says.
