The basis of designation for all existing things should also be the place where things are nominally existent. Thirdly, if you have refuted production from self, other, both, and without cause, in both aspects of the two truths, then how can it be ascertained that actions, consciousness, etc., arise from ignorance, and sprouts, etc., arise from seeds, etc., in conventional truth? To this, it should be said: Because in the manner previously described, the production of things does not occur without cause from their own nature, nor is it caused by the cause of Ishvara, etc., nor does it arise from time, atoms, nature, purusha, or the son of the desireless, etc., nor does it arise from self, other, or both. Therefore, relying on this cause and condition, this result will arise; it is merely abandoning the four extremes of production that is relied upon in order not to cut off the worldly terms of cause and effect. As the Bhagavan said, "This is the indication of the Dharma: this existing, that arises; this arising, that is born; that is, conditioned by ignorance, actions arise," etc. And in the Ratnavali it says: "This existing, this arises, like long existing, short exists. This arising, this arises, like a lamp arising, light exists." And in the Root Wisdom it also says: "The agent relies on the action, and the action also relies on that very agent. Apart from arising in dependence, no cause for accomplishment is seen. Likewise, the proximate cause should be known, for the sake of clarifying action and agent. By action and agent, the remaining things should be known." Only this much is said, and the four extremes of production are not mentioned. Thus, the Victorious One has spoken of production as merely dependent origination, and the Noble Ones have also acted accordingly. In particular, they consider dependent origination as relying on action, etc., and therefore, apart from that, they distinguish the difference between the production of self and other schools, and say that this should be combined with the limit of the existence of things. This teacher believes that, in general, production must be established, and because it does not arise from the four extremes, it will arise in dependence.
