Firstly, by explaining the two, it is said that one should understand what is not explained. Who speaks of conventional truth as ultimate truth? One should know that these people have a distorted mind. This means that for conventional truths, such as the six realms of beings, whoever speaks of them as ultimate truth, that is, as truly established, should be known to have a distorted mind. Therefore, it is said that those of one's own school who hold such views have a mistaken doctrine. To say the impure is pure, to say suffering is happiness, to say selflessness is self, to say impermanent dharmas are permanent, and to act in this way and rejoice, whoever abides in characteristics, if these people hear the words of the Sugata, they will be afraid and not understand them as they are, and thus abandon them. After these people abandon the words of the Sugata, sentient beings will experience unbearable suffering in hell. Although these people seek happiness in an improper way, they will experience hundreds of sufferings like children. This means that those non-Buddhists who are accustomed to the four distortions and are misled by doctrines that approve of them, will abandon the Buddha's teachings when they hear them, and as a result, sentient beings will go to hell. Although they seek the happiness of liberation in an improper way, not only will they not find it, but they will also be tormented by many sufferings. Whoever understands the teachings that benefit the world with an undistorted mind, will completely abandon all existence like shedding an old snake skin, and thus attain peace. All these dharmas are empty of inherent existence, emptiness is without characteristics, this is the ultimate truth. Whoever hears this and rejoices, these people will attain unsurpassed enlightenment. Victorious One, you see the aggregates as empty, the elements and sense bases are also the same, the city of the senses is without characteristics, all are like that, Sage, you see them as they are. It is said that if one understands the meaning of such profound scriptures without distortion, one can be liberated from samsara. If one wonders what the way to understand is, it is said that if one hears the words that all these dharmas are empty of inherent existence, etc., and rejoices, and if one understands their meaning, one can attain enlightenment. Previously, the conventional truth was explained, and here the ultimate truth is explained. The elements are the earth element, etc. The sense bases are forms, sounds, etc. Therefore, the conventional truth is merely imputed, and the ultimate truth is the true nature of no self.

How can those who are devoid of wisdom have liberation? Therefore, those who only speak of consciousness-only are merely embarking on a mistaken path. Here, the teaching of conventional truth serves as a means. As stated in the King of Samadhi Sutra: "In the Dharma without letters, who is the listener and who is the speaker? To the unchanging, one imputes, yet still one listens and speaks." The first two lines indicate that these do not exist in ultimate truth. In ultimate truth, there are no letters; to this, one imputes, that is, one establishes through conceptual thought, and then one listens and explains. The Sanskrit word for letter, Akshara, can refer to both letters and the unchanging, but here it is better to translate it as "without letters." Imputation refers to saying that something that does not exist exists, or saying that something that is not true is true, and there are many explanations for this. But it is not limited to this alone; generally, it can also refer to establishing something through conceptual thought. By merely abiding in conventional truth, one can reveal ultimate truth, and by understanding ultimate truth, one can attain Nirvana from ultimate truth. As stated in the Root Wisdom Treatise: "Without relying on conventional truth, the ultimate truth cannot be taught. Without understanding the ultimate truth, Nirvana cannot be attained." Fourth, if you say that we do not need to rely on you at all, then we will not tolerate you either. If you merely excel at refuting the views of others, and if you eliminate the self-established nature of other-dependence because it is unreasonable, then now, by the very reason of refuting self-origination and other-origination, we will eliminate the conventional truth that you accept because it is unreasonable. If you are like someone who steals the wealth accumulated through hundreds of hardships from beginningless time, like giving poisoned food in the guise of a friend and then taking it back, we have benefited you by stealing the object of your clinging to other-dependence as true, but instead of thanking us, you harm us. If you are happy and satisfied with this, then so be it; we will only become more exalted and pure. How do you, Mind-Only proponents, regard other-dependence as real, that is, as self-established? The Thirty Verses say: Without seeing that, one does not attain that.
