If it is only the place and the place-possessor established by sectarian tenets, then no matter how much one focuses with conceptual thought, the appearance of the knowable and the knower will not arise. But for the former, if one focuses and looks, then the different aspects of the consciousness of the place-possessor and the nature of the place itself will definitely arise. When one establishes one's own object of measurement, the nature of reality, with the non-conceptual wisdom of equipoise, then by its power, the wisdom of the place-possessor is established, and the dualistic appearance of the knowable and the knower appearing separately is reversed. The difference between the other systems, which hold that all consciousness looks inward and that the grasping aspect of the dualistic appearance is wild, and our view will be explained in the context of the stage of fruition. For such subtle distinctions, when one says to others, "Who will know the existence of this?" and so on, the harm of saying that can be turned back on them. Those who do not understand the subtle distinctions of the different systems of the great ones, and who cannot draw conclusions from the subtle meaning of the definitive scriptures of their own system and the extremely difficult subtle reasoning, if they only argue that "My system does not have this view, so it cannot be a fault," that is not necessary for those who have expectations. However, for the sake of those who are intelligent, wise, and have sharp minds, and who do not believe until they see the path of distinguishing faults and merits with subtle reasoning, I have thought about it and only shown the gateway to establishing this pure system as faultless. Then, if someone thinks, "I remember 'I saw blue,' this 'I' is a person, and the consciousness of seeing blue and the person are contradictory, so how can such a memory become a memory of seeing blue?" Even if the eye-consciousness of seeing blue and the person who sees blue are contradictory, just as it is not contradictory to establish "I saw" based on that consciousness seeing blue, what contradiction is there in the person remembering "I saw blue before" based on the blue consciousness remembering seeing blue? Third, if because of that, there is no self-awareness, then, O Mind-Only proponent, by whom will your other-dependent consciousness be grasped? The agent who cuts the tree, the tree that is the object of being cut, and the act of cutting the tree are not one, so it is reasonable for the consciousness itself to grasp it.

It is not so. The way in which harm befalls this is that, regarding the nature known from the "Self-Commentary on the Two Truths," the essence of things that are without both atoms and duality does not appear. For that which does not appear, there is no designation, which is clear. As for the consciousness described earlier, looking inward and experiencing without dualistic appearance, merely establishing itself as the knowable and itself as the knower, no matter how much one focuses on it, the knowable and the knower do not appear as two in conceptual thought. If one establishes the action of knowable and knower there, then the agent, the object, and the action will become excessively confused. Therefore, the great master Yeshe Nyingpo considers the self-awareness of the Mind-Only school and the partless atom of the Hearers' school to be similar in terms of existence or non-existence. For the partless atom, it is also necessary to occupy a place, but when its appearance arises, there is no way for it to appear without being associated with directional parts. Therefore, the knowable, the knower, and the lack of directional parts of these two are merely established by philosophical tenets. Therefore, it is also refuted that these two, even though they appear, are uncertain. The "Self-Commentary on the Two Truths" states: "If you think that even as it appears, it is not necessarily grasped with certainty, then there is no designation for such a thing. The term 'appearance' also requires an oath to be taken because there is no trust." Thus, for appearance, only an oath is the basis for proof. The reasoning spoken in the "Lankavatara Sutra" also does not support self-awareness, as it says: "Just as a sword cannot cut itself, and a finger cannot touch itself, so too is self-aware mind." Fourth, it has already been shown that the dependent self and non-arising from others have been previously explained. And the self-awareness that measures it has also been shown to be non-existent just now. If there is a dependent nature that does not arise by its own nature and is not known by valid cognition, and has a nature of self-established entities, then for what reason should this not be possible? What harm has the son of a barren woman caused you, Mind-Only proponent, that you do not want to admit its existence? You should admit its existence. Thus, the son of a barren woman is beyond all elaboration, becomes the object of the wisdom of the noble ones, and has an inexpressible nature, so you should admit that it exists. Second,
