Otherwise, memories of experiences from other continuums would also arise. Therefore, what was previously experienced and determined by the knowledge of experiencing an object, is not something that is later unexperienced and undetermined by the knowledge of memory. Thus, the thought "I have seen this before" will arise. This is merely the way of worldly conventions. One should not be satisfied with merely establishing terms, but should investigate and determine by seeking the meaning of the terms. Because if one seeks the meaning of the terms, one will find that it is a false meaning that cannot be found, which is the worldly convention. In the auto-commentary, after refuting self-cognition and memory as being established by their own characteristics, it says: "However, if it is according to worldly conventions, even then, memory with self-cognition as its cause is impossible." Thus, not only in the ultimate sense but also in the conventional sense, self-cognition is refuted. And it will show how memory arises without self-cognition. Here, it is said that the way in which memory arises from experience even without self-cognition is shown. Among them, the memory of "I think I saw it" is the memory with an object, and the memory of "I think I saw this blue thing, etc." is the memory of an object. Moreover, the fact that I remember what I saw myself is a special way of remembering. If that happens in memory, then the object-possessing knowledge of seeing something like Maitreya before clearly shows that it experienced itself, because memory follows the experience. That's what I thought. Our own system is that although we accept the way memory appears in the world, the way that memory comes about is not because the previous knowledge of experiencing the object cognized itself, but because the same object that was determined by the previous experience is also determined by memory, so the memory arises that "I have seen this Maitreya before." Therefore, we also accept terms such as "I saw it myself, I remember it myself." Although we accept that, we should also understand the difference from the refuted self-cognition based on this. Other systems posit experience, memory, and the objects at that time as other entities established by their own characteristics. Therefore, even if they want experience and memory to be the same object and that they are the same continuum, they cannot establish it that way, which has been said many times before. This Maitreya...
